Editor’s Take
Most trip reviews tend to focus on some or all of these 5 key areas, not all of which may be relevant to you: the tour guide, travel company, service level, country or countries traveled in, and the trip itinerary.
Remember, just because you see a 1 star review doesn’t necessarily mean that person disliked the country.
Traveling to the Amazon is unlike most vacations. Many trips to the Amazon consist of river cruises, with limited to no access to internet. You’re in the rainforest! If the weather permits, sit outside on the boat and enjoy your time floating on the water, taking in the scenery. Most people tend to forget this since we are in a world that is so dependent on our electronics.
If you’re prepared for this, it won’t be as much as a shock. Some lodges allow for internet connection, so if this makes or breaks a trip for you, make sure to research trips that feature stays that have internet connections. There is also no guarantee you will see specific wildlife.
Going in with an open mind, just looking forward to seeing anything that surprises you will help make the trip better. Bring breathable layers. While the weather is usually hot and humid, you want to stay protected from the insects and mosquitoes.
Many reviewers noted how safe they felt on their Amazon tours. The guides were knowledgeable and helpful, and travelers felt secure despite being so far from civilization. Transportation, lodging, activities, and all the other details were taken care of by the tours.
The quality of the services provided (lodging and transportation) were noted to be very good. Having everything booked and ready is extremely helpful being so far out in the nature. Some things are better left to the professionals, and many travelers agreed. Having people who knew what they were doing allowed for everyone to enjoy the trip as much as possible, stress free.
Many reviewers also noted the once in a lifetime opportunity to stay in lodges in the Amazon. Being away from the world in such a beautiful location was a memorable experience. The scenery is amazing, and you have great viewing options. It gives you another perspective of the Amazon.
A common trend in the reviews talked about the cooking and dining options. There aren’t exactly a plethora restaurants to pop into. Regardless, reviews mentioned how delicious the food was, despite being in the middle of nowhere.
Experiences are unique and there are itineraries for everyone. There are a wide range of activities, from swimming with dolphins, searching for animals, meeting with native villagers, and kayaking through the Amazon. Learn about different medicinal plants, or take a tour of a primate research center.
If you’re really daring, go piranha fishing, and if you catch one, fry it up and eat it for dinner! Tours give awesome views of the Amazon, and you have the chance to see it from land and from the water.
