Travel Style Travel Style Relaxed A lot of free time, with very few inclusions. Ideal for independent and/or low-key travelers and cruisers.
Full on For those looking to maximize their sight seeing time. You thrive on a packed day’s schedule from 8 am to 6pm, with some (but limited) free time. Most activities and meals included.
Mixed You will have solid amounts of both free time and structured time with some activities and meals included.

Trip Type Trip Type Group Tour Groups are between 25-60 people, typically ~30-40. Usually there will be many opportunities to split off and enjoy meals and excursions in smaller groups. This is the most economical way to travel, saving up to 40% versus booking the same itinerary yourself.
Small Group Tour Small groups are usually defined as between 10 and 24 travelers, often less. If you're the kind of person who enjoys more intimate experiences and personal service this is a good choice. All else being equal you will pay a premium for this style vs a larger group tour.
River Cruise These vessels are smaller than most ocean cruisers, limiting which amenties are available. Passenger counts can vary. One of the biggest advantages of a river cruise is the ability to dock at smaller ports and local villages.
Small Ship Cruise Small ship cruises usually have a max passenger count of 500. The primary purpose of these trips is to spend time off the vessel in local ports (e.g. Mediterranean) or experiencing nature (e.g Galapagos or Antarctica). Cabins can vary from budget to luxury.
Private Guided Private tours give you the undivided attention of a guide, and often involve special access to sites and unique experiences not available to larger groups. This is a great option for families, couples, and small friend groups. Expect to pay a bit more for the extra service.
Self Guided / Independent Tour A travel company plans your itinerary and arranges all the logistics including lodging, local activities, and transportantion. You have the flexibility of a solo trip while still getting the convience and time savings of expert planning. Get 90% of the benefits of a tour, without a guide.
Vacation / Holiday Package Similar to a self guided tour, this usually involves a home base, such as a hotel or resort, with packaged activities and day tours as a part of the stay.
Large Ship Cruise This is the "floating city" experience, with multiple ways to enjoy your vacation aboard the ship as much as on land. Ships are multiple floors, provide several activities, culinary, and shopping options. They often make fewer stops and have less time available for shore excursions.

Itinerary Focus

Lodging Level Lodging Level Camping Typically involves most nights sleeping in tents (sometimes permanent tented sites) or in rustic cabins and lodges.
Basic - 2 star You'll stay in no-frills, but clean and comfortable, hotels or guesthouses. A 'Basic' trip might also involve a few nights of camping.
Value - 3 star Mid-range budget with accommodations ranging from comfortable lodges, guesthouses, and homestays to three star hotels.
Premium - 4 star 3 to 4 star western hotel equivalents. While not all lodging will be 'luxury' they will be quite comfortable by western standards.
Luxury - 5 star The highest level of comfort and service. All accomodations are in four or five star hotels, boutique lodges or high-end homestays.

First cruise, ever! We did a land & sea journey to Alaska through Holland America Line. This is not a review of the trip (which was great!) so much as how HAL handled our complaints of damaged luggage. My sister's luggage arrived at our Yukon hotel with the latch broken, her clothes spilling out. She filed a report. We discovered damage to a corner of my husband's luggage at the departing airport. Too late to do a report...but HAL's property claims were wonderful, in particular, Mr. Scott Gerstl, who even called me to clarify details. He was empathetic and kind. We were reimbursed for both pieces of luggage.

There are so many great things to say about my European trip of a lifetime. The people that made it was my fellow topdeckers and of course the Fab Tour guide Matt Stewart. This is a trip that I will never forget, so many lovely memories I will cherish forever. We was very lucky with Matt because he really took time to talk to us and make us all feel relaxed with each other and asked us what we wanted to do. He was so knowledgable about all the places we went to, I remember thinking to myself this guy is pretty cool the fact he knows so well about the history and culture of each place especially the amount of cities we travelled to. Matt made the trip fun, interesting, exciting and I hope that if I was to ever do a top deck again one day he would be the tour guide or I think I would be disappointed. Have recommended top deck to so many people, memories I will have for a lifetime.

From the moment we met Alan we felt confident and comfortable that this trip will be great and it was ! Great bikes, good advice, long lunches on route (made for relaxed short afternoon ride !), accommodation and food kept getting better and better. Wonderful trip, as energetic as you want it to be. The Spanish people are wonderful, the area you ride is diverse, interesting, full of history and culture. We loved our food and wine and trip cycle went from Fawlty Towers quirky fun dinners to stunning cuisine and wines. It caters for all tastes. A good, fun cycle in an amazing area.

Barcelona Tours and Travel Guide

Barcelona Attractions & Landmarks Guide

Spain's second largest municipality, Barcelona is a hub of good food, impressive art and interesting architecture. Known for the distinct Catalan culture and dialect, Barcelona provides a great introduction to the diversity between the many different regions of Spain.

It's an ideal walking city with great food options, and plenty of museums and churches to keep history buffs and photographers busy for hours.

Top Things to See in Barcelona

  1. La Sagrada Familia - Arguably the heart of the architectural gems of Barcelona, many travellers flock from all parts of the world to see one of the most creative buildings conceived, designed by the famous Antoni Gaudi.

  2. The Dali Theater Museum - The Dali museum, even if you are familiar with the artist Salvador Dali or not, is something of a dream to witness. It is the most important museum that pays homage to this Catalan surrealist artist and one of the most popular day trips in Barcelona. The paintings, designs, and contraptions in the museums make it hard to miss for any art lover.

  3. Casa Batllo - This is simply a must see for anybody visiting Barcelona. Over any Gaudi masterpiece, this one has to top it all in terms of creativity, bizarreness and design. Recognized as one of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites, the vividly colorful villa is best experienced through a tour that explains all of Gaudi’s inspiration, work and detail.

  4. El GoticAlso known as the Gothic Quarter, El Gotic is a charming area mixed with history, modernism and cultural electricity racing around its winding, narrow streets lined with Catalan restaurants, stores and squares. As a former Roman village, this space is bedecked with gorgeous and historic architecture, El Catedral, Las Ramblas and other modern restaurants that makes El Gotic a vibrant hub and one of the city’s main attractions.

  5. La Boqueria - La Boqueria is the biggest and most famous street market in Barcelona. It is a magical place stuffed with local delectables that are always fresh, from seafood to produce, you name it.

  6. Explore the Tapas - Barcelona is scattered with lively bars and restaurants and packed filled with special Catalan tapas that any tourist shouldn’t miss. To get a taste of local life, try bar hopping around downtown, el Poble Sec or La Barceloneta district and explore local specialties like the delicious patatas bravas over refreshing beer and Spanish wine.

The best time to visit Barcelona is wholly dependent on what you as a traveler are looking for. Barcelona is one of those cities that has something resonant for everyone, in every time of the year, so it is important you pick what kind of season suits you best.

If you’re looking for cool, breezy and sunny days pact of full of visiting wineries and museums with fellow tourists sprawled across the city, spring is a wonderful choice. It is probably the most popular choice out of the seasons before fall since the city becomes extremely hot and claustrophobic anytime after May.
