First and foremost, France is typically more affordable to visit in October. Accommodations and flights can be found at lower rates than in high season, specifically in the summertime.

There will also be fewer crowds. This is largely a positive for most travelers, as it allows for better opportunities to feel like a local and avoid large groups of tourists.

Do keep in mind however, that this is the time of year when smaller monuments and attractions tend to close or reduce their hours, so make sure you make reservations in advance.

France has lovely weather in October. The seasons are changing so you will see a mix of sunny and rainy days, but the temperature is still mild. Your days can be walkable (make sure to pack some light sweaters and an umbrella).

If you're planning on visiting Paris, count on temps to be around 50-64°F  with little rain. In Northern France, you can expect cooler temperatures between 45-59°.

In the Atlantic France Coast, the winds return as well as colder weather resulting in averages between 52-64°F and in the south of the country temps are slightly higher ranging between 63-70°F.

On the first weekend every October, Paris’ museums, galleries, and cultural institutions open their doors all night long, free of charge.

2. Jazz Between the Two Towers - La Rochelle 

On the Bay of Biscay, this jazz festival features around 100 nationally and internationally recognized acts.

3. Lumière Film Festival 

Held in the city of Lyon (where film started with the Lumière brothers) for over a week every October, the festival screens over 174 international films.

4. Festival des Jardins (International Garden Festival)

From April to October the gardens of Château Chaumont-sur-Loire host this annual festival showcasing up to 30 themed gardens put on by landscape architects, designers, and artists.

The Disney Village hosts a fun-filled party for Halloween that's perfect for the whole family.
