Africa Tanzania Serengeti National Park

Serengeti National Park - Best Tours & Trips 2019

Serengeti National Park is home to the famous "big five" (lion, leopard, elephant, rhino, and buffalo) originally named for the five most valuable animals for poachers. Today though poaching remains a problem, the name refers more to the animals most safari goers hope to see. The other famous sight on the Serengeti is the Great Migration. An unforgettable sight, especially if you get a chance to view from the air.

This was my second time on this trip. I did it in June 2016 and decided to
try a trip in February instead. Yet again, it didn't disappoint.
Accommodation was great - especially Rhino Lodge and Tarangire Lodge and we
saw a multitude of wildlife - much close up. I came home with about 3000
photos again!
There were so many but perhaps it was the small herd of elephants having a
mud bath right by the side of our vehicle. The youngsters didn't want to get
out! Two lionesses with a very recent kill was also a first. Or perhaps it
was the wonderful pride of lions having a siesta on some rocks on the
Serengetti where we were able to get close and get some wonderful photos.
And last but not least herds of zebra as far as the eye could see and beyond
including a youngster who entertained us playing a game of dare running to
and fro the track in front of us, skipping, jumping and showing off until he
got told off by his Mum! Then again my first ever sighting of an African
wildcat - although in the distance was still good enough for a photo and
another exciting memory. I could go on!

Jackson was great. Knowledgeable and very attentive. He was always checking
that everyone in the group was OK. He was also very friendly, had a sense of
humour and made sure he spent time with everyone in the group.
Our drivers - Julius and Alex - were also great. Their driving was second to
none. I was in the vehicle driven by Julius and I was also impressed by his
ability to spot animals miles away and he was also very knowledgeable.

Enjoy! Make sure you have large memory chips in your cameras! A pair of
binoculars is a must for those sightings that are just a bit too far away for
a photo. Keep your eyes pealed at all times and enjoy not just the stunning
wildlife but the beautiful scenery as well and also the friendly people at
all the camps and lodges.

Having now done a few safaris with Exodus staying in a variety of tented
camps (my favourites) and lodges, I would never visit Africa and stay in a
hotel! The tented camps make you feel a part of it all and laying in bed at
night listening to the sounds of Africa is magical and exciting.

And whenever you get a chance, talk to the local people - they love learning
from you as much as you can enjoy learning from them.

I cannot rate Exodus enough. I have had some fabulous holidays with them so
far and hope to have many more. As a solo traveller I feel completely safe
with Exodus.

I'm already pouring over the latest brochures to decide where I am going in
2019!

It was a great trip, wonderful to see the animals in their natural habitat.
Some long days of driving but well worth it in the end. Erellah was great
leader, pointed things out that we would've never seen without his help.
Wilson, Sam and Esther were great assets to the trip and made it all the more
enjoyable. It was my first trip with Exodus and plan on more.
Seeing all the animals!

He was great and very well informed.

Expect some long days of travel but worth it.

Although we had previously visited Kenya six years ago (on the Gorillas and
Masai Mara trip) we had never seen the wildebeest crossing so I had really
hoped to be lucky this time. Also our former trip had been an excellent
experience so I had no hesitation in booking this trip with the added
Tanzania experience.
We were really lucky and saw the great migration, watching the wildebeest
crossing the River Mara. There was such a dramatic build up to it - first a
small group went to cross and then rushed back when they reached the river
and saw crocodiles. We thought we weren't going to see it. Then further along
the riverbank, a larger group just suddenly started rushing. We sat and
watched for about fifteen minutes as wildebeest were stampeding across the
plains joined by groups of zebra and then waded across the river and up the
other side.

Erellah was an excellent group leader and a real credit to Exodus. He split
his time equally amongst all trip members and would turn his hand to whatever
was required be it organising, putting up tents, cooking etc. He was always
bright cheerful and full of energy and worked extremely hard.

There is a lot of packing and unpacking in the first 10 days, organise your
bag for ease of access and bring a padlock for your locker. Pack walking
boots and comfortable sandals. Warm clothes for the Ngorongoro Crater are
essential (I took a light thermal layers including vest, leggings, fleece
top, hat, scarf and gloves) … I was not going to get cold! Having said
that pack light but take a washing line and pegs.

Although expensive I would recommend the Kenyan balloon trip. The pilot was
excellent, the experience beautiful, peaceful and altogether rather surreal.
The breakfast good and with a view that is breathtaking. In the 4 x 4 game
drive which lasted a few hours we saw lion, leopard and cheetah!

Saw all the infamous National parks & so much awesome wildlife, too numerous
to mention.
Great group, relaxing tour pace & even the camping was great!
The way the trip is organised & run by the crew is flawless, I am so
impressed & will definitely have consider this type of trip again.
Seeing the wildebeast crossing the Mara river during the annual migration was
the most awe inspiring thing I have ever seen, made up that we managed to see
this...thanks to the crew !

Erillah was a fantastic tour guide, relentlessly cheerful & knowledgable,
supported by Wilson & Esther - awesome chefs who looked after us so well, &
Sam, the driver, who kept us safe at all times & gave us the best 'African
massage' !!

Take binoculars & pack really light, you really won't need many clothes as
you can easily wash en route.
We all got affected by motion sickness due to the rough roads, so I would
recommend taking travel sickness medication.

Have to rate that trip as excellent everyone needs a bit of luck on these
trips and we had it by the barrow load though this was bought about by the
staff.
Hmm difficult to say maybe the Sea Eagle relieving a Maribou Stork of the
fish it had just caught or the mating lions in Tarangire or the up to one
hundred Elephants in the afternoon at the same place or a pair of male
Cheetahs and three Leopards or the Rhino at Ngorongoro or a female lion
draped over a branch of a tree sound asleep her three cubs practising the
same trick a Zebra under the tree no longer taking part in life or sleepless
at 4 am walking outside with a lion a few hundred yards away quietly
proclaiming that he is the boss. So many lions some just laying by the
trackside invariably full up and sleeping, thousands of Wildebeest on the
move. Maybe the best was the young Elephant charging around probably alarming
his owner even had the cheek to rush our vehicle, a few minutes later a much
larger character did the same. The Crater is an amazing place all the
animals, except Giraffes, in a relatively small space. Very good time to
visit so many young animals moving around.

Jackson keep him, unfailingly polite and helpful which i can guess can be a
little bit difficult at times, Alex was an excellent, driver, spotter, and a
mine of information.

DO NOT forget the torch and the loos are good all the way.

Take the pain and spend the money.
