I went to Bhutan for a cultural and hiking experience and I got one! Our guides were AMAZING and shared their amazing, unique culture with us. They answered all our random questions, and gave us an incredibly insight into their world. The hikes were gorgeous, especially to Tiger's Nest and the Cheli La pass. We got to chat with monks at a Buddhist college and eat at a local farmhouse for lunch. The temples were incredible as well. Boundless was great to work with, they handled all the visa stuff and airfare into the country. I'd definitely take another trip with them. Ashley the person I was in contact with was friendly and since she'd been there, she could answer all my questions from first-hand experience. The food wasn't amazing, but you don't go to Bhutan for the food. But the lodging was definitely way better than I expected!

This was my 50th Birthday gift from my husband, to take my daughter and myself to do this trek. Our guide was a snobby, disrespectful still Sargent with no social graces. My cousin from Paris and his daughter, then about 8, met us for the pre departure hike and this horrible guide yelled at her! And it was on my daughters birthday, July 25th. I'll never forget. He ruined the trip. We made the best of it of course but he was just so awful and wouldn't allow us to have interaction with other people we met on the trail! I mean it was just the 3 of us in the trip so we are very social and wanted to meet and interact with others! He truly ruined the trip and in addition the accommodations were not great. It may have been ok if they had told us, but they didn't. One night we had no heat or hot water and had to share a bathroom with the entire floor of our hiking lodge. The company did NOT tell us about that in advance. We are allergic to the cold! This is a safety issue. Unbelievable. I would NOT recommend this trip with this company.

I was very impressed with the Family Adventure company in terms of the holiday delivered which was exceptional. The booking and pre-holiday experience was fine although it would be better to have a specific contact to email rather than just to phone the general number with queries.

Booking and customer service were good. From a child's perspective

Booking and customer service were good. From a child's perspective, FAC were not as welcoming. Another company we have travelled with sent a welcome pack with a travelling companion (soft toy) and activities to do while travelling. When on the holiday this company also catered more for families needs e.g. more frequent stops when travelling for food and toilets, without parents having to ask. The stops were also at more sensible times e.g. making sure there was a stop at lunch time (12.30ish), rather than early afternoon (1.30 onwards). Children (and adults) get irritable if they've not eaten making the journey more stressful.

    About Boundless Journeys

Boundless Journeys is a small group adventure operator with 20+ years experience, located in Vermont, USA. They specialize in active trips all over the world, which feature activities such as trekking, rafting, safaris, or expedition cruises.

    What Makes Them Stand Out?

Many tour companies advertise their ‘small groups’ but Boundless Journeys’ are truly small - with an average group size of just 8-10 travelers. Employees of Boundless Journeys are constantly out ‘in the field’ researching new trips and working to create truly authentic experiences. They offer a wide variety of trips, focusing on multiple activities and destinations all over the world. Boundless Journeys has won multiple industry awards from Travel & Leisure and National Geographic Adventure.

    Who Travels With Them?

Boundless Journeys tends to attract travelers who want to challenge themselves physically or culturally, but with a bit of comfort. Groups are a mix of couples, friends, families, and solo travelers. Boundless Journeys does not force a single supplement if you are traveling alone, but you may choose to have your own room if desired.

    Where Do They Operate?

Boundless Journeys operates trips all over the world, including safaris in Africa, walking and trekking excursions throughout Europe, cultural adventures in Asia, and expedition cruising in Turkey and Ecuador. They also offer a substantial number of itineraries in their ‘private collections’ category, which can be of value if you already have a group of friends or family to travel with.

    Why Travel with Them?

If you have always wanted to trek the Alps or hike the Inca Trail with a few extra added creature comforts, you might enjoy a trip with Boundless Journeys. On many trips, the trip guides arrange for your bags to meet you at the next destination, so you are free to enjoy while carrying only the basic necessities. Accommodations are always locally owned and authentic to the region (unless you are camping). Boundless Journeys also gives back philanthropically to the areas they visit and many of their past clients are involved with local non-profit projects around the world.

    About The Family Adventure Company

Founded two decades ago and based in the UK, The Family Adventure Company specializes in small group family adventure vacations. The company is now part of the global adventure travel operator Intrepid Travel, and trips are offered through Intrepid as well, allowing them to greatly expand their range.

    What Makes Them Stand Out?

With more than 20 years’ experience, The Family Adventure Company helped pioneer the concept of small-group adventure travel for families with young children. Activities are wide-ranging, from river rafting and kayaking to cycling, sailing, camping, and wildlife viewing, all geared to the ages and interests of the family travelers.

    Who Travels With Them?

A wide variety of families, including solo-parent, single-child, multi-generational families -- parents, children, and grandparents traveling together -- and families with teenagers. The latter have dedicated trips of special interest to teens.

    Where Do They Operate?

Much of the world: Africa, Asia, the Middle East, Europe, and the Americas.

    How Does it Work?

No matter where you travel, The Family Adventure Company provides an English-speaking, family-friendly local leader. Lodging, transportation and activities are also included. Tours typically consist of three or four families with kids of similar ages or interests. (You can also put together your own trip with just your family or other families you’re friendly with.) Children 14 and under get a ten percent discount off adult prices; large families (over two kids) get another price break.

    Why Travel With Them?

The award winning company offers a wide range of trips for a wide variety of families. Because they only cater to families, they know what kids like – and as any parent can tell you, nothing is more disastrous than a family tour not geared in any way to kids. The company also supports responsible and sustainable travel practices and gives back to local communities.
