What travelers are saying

"I recently took the Best of Australia and New Zealand tour...added on Fiji and a day in Auckland...with Discovery Nomads. During the booking process they were attentive and helpful. However, the nightmare began after paying for the tour! They told us we would receive our itinerary 10 to 20 days before our trip. It was sent 4 days before departure. We booked a tour for the trans alpine train from Christchurch to Queensland which we were told after the fact, that it did not exist. Furthermore, they failed to make a transfer reservation from the airport to our hotel in Christchurch. It took a week of constant sending of emails to get credit. They never answered them! Credit was finally issued almost 25 days later. The nightmare continues...we had to call each shuttle ride to confirm as their confirmation numbers were wrong and the local company could never find our reservations. So now add the cost of all the phone calls! Furthermore, when we reached out to Discover Nomads to help us while traveling, they NEVER answered their phone or a request for refund by email. We were completely ignored and left on our own. The only saving grace was we were traveling in English speaking countries. Can you imagine this happening to you in a country that doesn't speak English? Nightmare!!!!! And no assist from this horrible company. The only communication from them was for flight delays which we found out first by checking into the airport and one response asking for how much I paid for my transfer and proof of payment. I explained that it was all electronic and requested a refund of my original payment...heard nothing again from them until seven days later they sent an email stating that a meeting point had changed. So they had my email, just refused to deal with refunds or help. In addition, they had us waiting 15 hours for a hotel room in two flights. We were not allowed to stay in hotel lobby for so long and we arrived at 1:00am. We ended up paying for an early check in. Also, all internal flights were booked with 7.5 kg cabin luggage only. We had to pay baggage fees of $45 per bag. The costs of this trip were way higher then we anticipated. We had quotes for private tours just $2,000 higher...we should have booked that as we probably spent close to that amount in other fees!! TAKE MY WARNING...DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!!!!!"

What travelers are saying

"The most unprofessional tour. The tour guide was nasty and made us walk miles because she didn't want to pay for transportation. It was not luxurious in the least bit, I would've been better off just going with friends. Save yourself from a horrible trip. Singles International is very professional and a better bet."

What travelers are saying

"Did a long break trip (or fall break) with Euroadventures on their "Best of the East" adventure. I had always wanted to travel to the destinations (especially Prague, Krakow & Budapest) and the trip and organization did not disappoint. Everything really was top notch from the itinerary and pace of the trip to the accommodations to the trip leader. By the end of the trip our group went from strangers (there were some traveling together as groups of friends) to all great friends. Highly recommend this trip, especially for those looking for something slightly off the beaten path (especially Krakow) and this company."

What travelers are saying

"I was provided with large varieties of food and also alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks were available. Towels, soap, lotion, and shampoos were also all available. Many diverse options were available to me and the other passengers. They did a very good job to make all opportunities helpful and fun for everyone. With everything including the food and drinks everything was a great value and I'm happy to have made the purchase and I would definitely do it again someday if given the great opportunity. The stay was very relaxing but also very fun with many diverse options of things to do so that no one would get bored or hungry. The stay was worth the money and it was a very nice experience."

What travelers are saying

"BEWARE! This company was terribly disorganized in trying to plan our trip to Morocco. They did not book our hotels properly and could not provide the trip they promised and we had paid for. They did not know our flight information, and could not provide any details a week out as to who would be guiding us on our tour, etc. When THEY offered to provide a full refund given their mistake, we cancelled our trip and have been trying to get our money back ever since. They have blocked our calls and do not answer our emails. They keep promising the check and it is more than 30 days since due. This check is not coming to us. They have tried to convince us not to contact the credit card company (in hopes that the we wait too long and the credit card can no longer win a dispute). DO NOT BOOK!!"

What travelers are saying

"I went on this trip with some misgivings, as my only other experience with this type of tour was a winter Tauck Family Bridges tour of Italy, that was not a good experience. Well, I am SO glad I went, as my daughter and I had a marvelous time. Disney did an amazing job of organizing this trip - I still can't believe how much they managed to fit into essentially 8 days. I also can't believe how much fun it all was! The guides were tremendous. First of all, unlike Tauck (where we traveled with one tour manager), here we had two guides with us the entire time - one a licensed guide in Greece (i.e., a native, very knowledgeable about the country and able to really take us through the historical and archaeological sites) and the other an American who has been guiding in Greece for years. The interaction between the guides was very warm, as was their way of relating to the guests. This was a complete contrast with Tauck. Here people really got to know each other, the young people had a great time with each other, and, of course, Greece itself is just magnificent. I will certainly travel with Disney again!"

What travelers are saying

"We booked in February via TripMasters for a trip to Italy in June. Everything was confirmed in February, after our payment. However, in May, right before our trip, we were told that our hotel in Venice had become unavailable. This is from the email sent by TripMasters : "We were just informed that Sant`Antonin Hotel will not be able to honor our reservation that is why our vendor is offering the following alternative properties that is a free upgrade to 4 stars Hotel: 1st Option: Novotel Venezia Mestre Castellana - Upgrade to 4**** Via Alfredo Ceccherini 21, Mestre, VE, 30174, ITA Room type: Family Room, 1 Double Bed with Sofa bed Bedding type: 1 Double Bed and 1 Double Sofa Bed 2nd Option: Hotel Mercure Venezia Marghera - Upgrade to 4**** Via Malamocco 14, Mestre, VE, 30175, ITA Room type: Starndar, Multiple Beds 2 Twin Beds and 1 Double Sofa Bed Note that these rooms are not booked yet. We need your approval. Please let us know if you accept, or if you need further information do not hesitate to contact us." Neither hotel has the traditional style we were looking for, so we declined and scrambled to find among the much more limited inventory than when we booked our trip in February an acceptable alternative. It's only until we finished our trip and got to know the area better did we realize how far away the two alternative options TripMasters are from Venice (>1 hour each way to Venice via public transportation) and how much cheaper they are compared with our original choice (right in the center of Venice and has stellar reviews). We just felt lucky that we didn't take the bait and fell into their trap. Otherwise, our trip would have been ruined. It's quite blatant when they had the gut to mention this in their email: "a free upgrade to 4 stars Hotel" without disclosing the much different location of the two alternatives. We dislike being treated so dishonestly and will never use them again."

Spain Tour Selection Trips

  • Don’t expect to absorb all of Spain in one trip -- it’s larger than California and even more diverse.
  • Consider taking a themed tour of Spain -- revolving around food, walking, or art and architecture.
  • If you’re a lover of great art and architecture, book a tour that includes as many of these cities as possible: Madrid, Barcelona, Bilbao, Toledo, Granada, and Seville.
  • If you’re a sun-worshipper, book a tour to southern Spain that includes some beach time.
  • If you’re a food lover, book a culinary tour to Barcelona and the Basque Country.
  • Taking a river cruise on the Guadalquivir through Andalusia is an often overlooked -- and very pleasant -- way to see southern Spain.
  • Booking a tour along the Camino de Santiago ensures you’ll find a place to stay every night and that you’ll have company -- and support, if needed -- along this well trammeled route.
  • The northern stretches of Spain in the Pyrenees are far less traveled but extremely scenic and greener and cooler than farther south.
  • If you’re looking for picture-postcard scenery that will leave you gasping, book a tour that includes the Andalusian town of Ronda, built on the edge of a deep chasm.

Best Time to Visit Spain

If you’re looking to visit spain when the weather is sunny but not blisteringly hot, spring season (March to May) or Fall (August to September) is the best time to go. You’ll be swarmed with less crowds as tourist season is in the summer, and exploring the cities will be much more relaxing and less claustrophobic.

Spain is a popular wine tasting destination, which is a popular activity throughout the year. The most picturesque time to visit vineyards is generally Summer through Autumn. The vines are full and colorful and wineries are buzzing with activity - in the fall it’s harvest time which is always exciting.

The vines are not exactly pretty to look at in the winter, but this is a less crowded time in the tasting rooms. So if you’re interested in talking shop with the tasting room associates, this is one of the best times to visit - when they won’t be distracted by large groups.

Unfortunately Spain is fairly expensive year round, even during shoulder seasons. Traveling with a tour can often help you save on food and activities such as attending local festivals.

Weather in Spain

Many travelers believe in the myth that Spain is sunny and gorgeous all year long. Unfortunately, that isn’t the case. Your trip to spain can differ depending on the month and region you plan your trip around.

Winter: Spain in the winter is mostly dry. It actually happens to be one of the best countries in Europe to be during the cold months. The temperature usually ranges around 40 to 50 degrees F throughout most regions. The inland cities are usually the coldest and you can expect some snow, although it is more common in December or January. It is important to note that on Christmas day hardly any restaurants will be open since it is a family holiday!

Spring: Expect outstretched sunny skies but cool, relaxing breezes, probably any traveler’s dream weather for going to the beach… or going anywhere for that matter! Spring is the best time to take a trip to La Concha, Ibiza and other beautiful coasts, with the heat staying around 65 degrees F. The only thing about Spring is that the weather can be unpredictable. Some days may be washed with rainfall, which is most likely the case for cities like Madrid.

Summer: Although this is peak tourist season, Spain is notorious for being extremely hot during the summer. The heat basks most cities during the months of July and August, soaring as high as 90 degrees F. If you’re planning on taking a trip to Spain at this time, we highly recommend traveling to the north of Spain, like Bilbao, where the weather isn’t too extreme. Many locals flock to the coast since the inner cities get extremely hot.

Fall: Although September is technically fall, in Spain it’s still as sunny as summer. It’s still very warm, although not as intense as August, and still considered beach weather. The next months ahead marks the best time to visit Spain’s big cities, like Madrid and Barcelona, that host some of the best events, festivals and activities for tourists.

What to Pack for Traveling to Spain

You can expect to do a lot of walking around the cities of Spain, on cobbled pathways. Make sure to bring sturdy sneakers or any closed toe shoes for walking around religious sites. If you’re traveling in the summer, do not underestimate the sun.

Make sure to bring lots of sunscreen, hats and dry fit clothing. Likewise, even in the summer, Spain is known to have unexpected rainfall so bring a travel sized umbrella just in case.

In terms of clothing, Spain is a pretty religious country. It would be wise to dress a little more on the conservative end, especially if you’re planning to visit any of the magnificent churches or fortresses.

We recommend a light shall to cover your shoulders and to protect yourself from the sun. It is also advised to bring anti-theft bags since pick pocketing is quite common in the cities.

Is Spain Safe?

Spain is absolutely safe for tourists and one of the safest countries to travel to in Europe. The only thing to look out for are some petty thefts like pickpocketing in large cities, especially around the summer in peak tourist period. Keep a lookout on your valuables, such as your phone or cameras, especially in party hot spots such as Ibiza.

It is also important to mention that there is some political unrest in Barcelona, specifically around the Catalan region. That being said, it is rare than any of these turn violent or dangerous. Violent crime rates are pretty low and uncommon.

Travelers should take note that Spain has reported 193 confirmed cases of coronavirus.

Do’s and Don’t for Traveling in Spain

5 dos...

  1. Do make sure your passport is valid at least 3 months after you have booked your tickets to Spain. It’s common to be denied boarding or entry otherwise

  2. Do expect very friendly locals. Most Spaniards are very welcoming of tourists and encourage spanish learners to try and speak their language. Local greetings also commonly include kisses on the cheek so don’t be shy about it!

  3. It’s important to keep in mind that Catalonia is its own language and culture, and Catalan people are very proud of it. If you’re visiting Barcelona, be sure to learn about their heritage and be sensitive to topics such as religiosity and regionalism. This is also true for the Basque region and Galicia.

  4. Make sure that if you have enough time in Spain that you don’t stay cooped up in the main cities. Madrid and Barcelona are wonderful but the real magic of Spain is enveloped in the countryside, in charming small villages and islands. Explore past the tourist meccas and you will find a truly cultural, authentic and memorable trip to Spain.

  5. Do visit the local markets! In pursuit of an authentic trip, trying out the regional hams, fresh produce and exquisite seafood in local markets is a perfect way to be more immersed in their culinary and cultural world.

5 Don’ts...

  1. A basic rule is to wear your flip flops at the beach and only the beach. In the city, especially Barcelona, you’re expected to wear closed toe shoes for both religious and cultural reasons. It is also illegal to wear your bikini or swimsuits into some cities, so best not stand out!

  2. Don’t tip big. In Spain, servers earn a living wage, so it is common for Spaniards to leave a few changes for tip, unlike in other countries where servers rely on tips for income

  3. Do not underestimate pickpockets. It’s important that you don’t leave your bag half open while walking, or leave your wallet in your back pocket while walking around. Watching street performers is also a place where pickpockets earn the most snags, so always be cautious

  4. Spaniards are pretty laid back with time, and dinner is a good example. Don’t expect to have dinner at restaurants before 9 pm. Late meals is pretty common in this country

  5. Don’t pack too many clothes. Spain is a fashionable country and a shopping metropolis, so chances are you’re going to be very tempted to seek out their chic brands and styles.
