Itinerary
You will be collected from your hotel in Nairobi, or directly from the international airport. Transfer to Wilson Airport (the domestic airport in Nairobi) to catch the 10.00am flight to the Mara. Upon arrival at the airstrip in the Mara, you will be met by landrovers....
A full day to explore this remote area with abundant game. Drives, rides and walks may be taken from camp. Overnight Olare Lamun.
Our first moving day and we break camp in good time as it is the longest ride of the trip covering nearly 50kms. We ride across rolling open plains and the game generally becomes more plentiful as we approach the Mara ecosystem. We should see herds of zebra, topi, gir...
Days 4 and 5: Two full days of morning and evening rides from camp with the option of driving into the game park for some good photographic opportunities. From the landrovers we can get much closer to lion, elephant and buffalo than we are able to do from the horses. Overnight Olare Orok.
Another moving day. We head west across the Mara plains and reach the Mara River on the park boundary. We hopefully ford the river (unless in complete flood) at one of the famous wildebeest crossings and then head southwest across the Mara Triangle where we have our p...
We ride southwest along the top of the escarpment enjoying glorious views to the east on excellent going for the horses. We hopefully see the beautiful Mrs Ross’ and Schalows Turaco as well as much plains game. We descend the escarpment on foot along a rocky cattle tr...
We descend the escarpment again and ride across to the same wildebeest crossing on the river. We head in a northwestern direction and after lunch, find our final campsite set up on the banks of the Mara River. Close by are some hippo pools and their grunting at night is a special feature of this camp. Overnight Mara River.
Leaving camp after breakfast with a picnic lunch, we go by road through the Mara to Deloraine (a charter flight is available in lieu of vehicle transfer at your own expense). Arrive at Deloraine in time for tea and an evening walk around the beautiful garden. Overnight Deloraine.
An early morning ride before breakfast is optional. Day trips to either Lake Nakuru or Bogoria famous for their flamingoes can be arranged with a picnic lunch. Overnight Deloraine.
Optional morning ride. Transfer to Nairobi. If departing by plane, do not book a flight departing prior to 7.00pm.
The shorter 7 night safari is the same itinerary offering the three best campsites: Olare Lamun, Olare Orok and Soit Ololol.

Tour Operator
Whether you are galloping with zebra in Kenya, exploring the vineyards of France, driving cows in Wyoming or riding with nomads in Mongolia, we have the expertise to bring you an exceptional equestrian adventure.
Browse through these enticing trips and contact our well informed ride consultants for advice. We have gained considerable experience in over 40 years of running horseback riding vacations internationally and from our own Wyoming ranch. Our knowledge is at your disposal. Join us on one of our trips, and discover the world by horseback!
Unbiased Assessments and Highest Standards
Equitours maintains the highest standards for our rides and offers you only the cream of riding adventures in each category. We give unbiased assessments of the pros and cons of each ride and aim to find the most appropriate for your tastes, ability and pocket book.
Some of the criteria we consider in choosing rides are the quality and care of the horses, the condition of the tack, the attractiveness of the countryside, the skill and friendliness of the guides, historical and cultural interest, food and drink and comfort of the accommodations.
Years of Experience
We have been organizing riding tours since 1971 and have personally tested hundreds of rides since then. Our ride consultants as well as the Fox Family, owners of Equitours (Bayard, Mel, Richard and Hadley), are thoroughly familiar with our trips and can advise you about the details of each ride we offer.
Attention to Detail
We can easily help you find the most suitable trip based upon your interests, your riding level, your budget and your personal tastes through one-on-one telephone conversations or by email if you prefer. Our knowledgeable and friendly ride consultants will answer all your detailed questions, promptly. From initial query until you return from the adventure we will work to make your experience as wonderful as possible.
More than Travel Agents
One of our great strengths is that we are not just tour operators or travel agents. We share your love of horses! We run our own ranch in Wyoming, the Bitterroot Ranch, with around 170 horses (many of which we have raised and trained) where we personally take guests on rides every day.
We also often accompany our guests on overseas riding tours which keep us in close personal touch with what riders are seeking in an equestrian vacation. You have many years of riding and international travel experience at your disposal by choosing Equitours as your host on your international riding vacation.
