Tour Operator
European Castles Tours is based in Hopfen am See, just outside of Füssen in the southern part of Bavaria. Füssen is in the heart of castle country. King Ludwig’s Neuschwanstein Castle and his family’s Hohenschwangau Castle are both within 5 km (3 miles) of Füssen, and Ludwig’s second castle, Linderhof, is close by as well.
European Castles Tours offers tours in Bavaria, in Germany’s Rhine region, and in the surrounding countries of central Europe.
Astrid Baur grew up in Füssen, and famous castles have always been just another part of her daily life. She began giving castles tours as a summer job, learned what guests expect and appreciate most, established her own tours company in 2004, and is proud of now counting thousands of happy clients as tour friends.
Astrid acts as Tour Director when possible, as this is what she loves most of all. The company has added new itineraries, day tours, and private tours to its offerings so Astrid has carefully recruited and trained an excellent team in how to do things the way she and her guests expect.
The experienced professionals have the local knowledge to do what the guidebooks simply cannot – give you an insider's perspective on each destination and create a holiday experience you could not have on your own. With friendly attentiveness, they act as your personal concierge, ensuring your holiday is seamless and hassle-free.
Our team members all speak English fluently, have deep knowledge of history and the tour destinations which they are eager to share, and are highly motivated, outgoing, caring, and fun. And we are all addicted to castles. We are your local friends in unfamiliar places – already before your tour starts.
European Castles Tours specializes in all-inclusive small-group English-language tours – featuring inside visits at the most impressive castles, palaces, chateaux, cathedrals, monasteries and medieval towns in Germany and central Europe. Our Bavarian and the Rhine region castles tours are the most popular, but we also travel to Austria, the Czech Republic, Switzerland, Italy, France, Portugal, and Ireland.

(Optional) Three Nights Venice Extension
Turn your Bavarian Castles Tour into an even more magical vacation with an extension to Venice, described as "undoubtedly the most beautiful city built by man" and as "one of Europe's most romantic cities."
This three-night extension takes the same approach to visiting Italy's Veneto region as our longer Italian Highlights Tour.
Travel across the scenic Alps, visit Verona, the setting for Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet, and check into your 4-star hotel on Venice's Lido Island. Ride the bus boats on the Grand Canal and see the Rialto Bridge, tour inside the palace and basilica on St. Mark's Square, go for a gondola ride, and visit the scenic islands of Murano, Burano, and Torcello. Shop if you wish, explore on your own, or relax on Lido Island's beach.
