Best Cultural Tours & Trips

Cultural tours can take many forms: art, architecture, music, and literary tours being perhaps the most common. But cultural tours might also involve interactions with indigenous tribes in South America or visiting villages to learn about daily life in Fiji. While many tours contain major cultural components, some make it their primary focus.

We were a group of 34 seniors departing from JFK on 12 Oct 2017. The itinerary was the same as the standard 17-day tour and it was well-paced for our group. Mark Ma was our Tour Director, and he was very helpful, friendly and made sure that everyone was safe and enjoying the trip. My group has been on several guided international tours, and this was one of the best. smarTours helped us set up the tour, get our visas and got us first-class hotels throughout the trip. I recommend that you consider them for your travel group. Ms. Suzanne Anderson at their NYC office was specially helpful. Thanks to everyone at smarTours for this excellent experience. Read more

Julian and I are still talking and telling everyone we meet about the surprisingly wonderful trip we recently took. Our guide, Mr. Li Bo, Oscar, was our mother, father, savior, historian, bathroom locator and best friend throughout the entire trip. He seemed to have a second sense and was there when we needed him, either for a pharmacy, help with our luggage or credit cards and the ATM's. The local guides, especially Allie, in Shanghai were extremely helpful and knowledgeable. The hotels and Yangtze River rooms were excellent. All the shows, parks and extras and river cruises were wonderful. The food was pretty good but the hot pots and dim sum that we had when we ventured out on our own was sensational. It's an amazing country with beautiful and unusual sites. I look forward to more trips with SmarTours and I can only hope that they are as great as this trip was for us. Thank you Oscar. Read more

I grew up with National Geographic so when I signed up for a NG trip I was quite excited. I spent a lot of time on a crowded bus. Some of the accommodations were two star, peeling paint, smelly rooms, poorly catered. This was an expensive trip all my girl friend and we spent 17,000 dollars for the two of us. Some of the guides were actually wrong about what they were saying about the history of Sicily, and you did not have to be an expert to realize this. There were a number of representations that tour operators made that turned out to be less than accurate. The tour group one night was having dinner in Sorento, and I asked about the wine they were serving, that is the grape and vintage, the only explanation I got was "its red". In another circumstance, the tour operator lost guests at Pompeii, and then threatened to leave them. It was a mess. I could go on, but I would cross this trip off the list. Read more

I had a lot of fun and learned a lot on Mysteries of India with G Adentures-National Geographic.
India is not an easy countriy to visit for the first timer, so an organized tour is the way to go.
Our guide (CEO), Manu Rao, was excellent--he is very personable, knows his country exteremly well, and will go the extra mile to make sure his group is informed and comfortable.
This trip focusses on Rajasthan, a large state, and covers a lot of territory.
Our group consisted of 6 travellers-two Canadians, two Australian, and two Americans.
I travelled as a single male traveller (wife could not join me).
Everybody was in their 50s and 60s, all reasonably energetic.
A would go on a similar G Adventures tour as soon as time and budget permit.

I recently returned from the 11 day Classic Poland trip which I took with my cousin. We were pleasantly surprised with just how whimsical and charming much of Poland is. Our guide, Jolanta Postrzygacz, was fabulous. She consistently went the extra mile to make everyone happy including offering "treats" representative of Poland during longer coach rides. While the hotels weren't super deluxe, they were pretty comfortable and most of the included meals were wonderful. The tours were very informative and enjoyable. It was an excellent trip and I highly recommend it! Read more

Cultural Tours and Travel Guide

Cultural Attractions & Landmarks Guide

Cultural tours can take many forms: art, architecture, music, and literary tours being perhaps the most common. But cultural tours might also involve interactions with indigenous tribes in South America or visiting villages to learn about daily life in Fiji. While many tours contain major cultural components, some make it their primary focus.

The Arts & National Consciousness

Throughout time, the arts have been a unique and powerful tool. They are used for portraying both political dissonance and dissatisfaction. They are intrinsically linked to the outlook of a nation. They are a great equalizer - whether you “like” a piece of art or not, is irrelevant. All humans create art, and have for thousands of years. It’s one of the quickest avenues to discovering more about a country’s culture.

It’s guaranteed that a cultural tour will incorporate a deep look at the arts - from film, painting, and music, to artifacts and architecture.

Native Traditions

Learning about the traditions and cultures of native peoples can be a glimpse into the ancient world. Often more closely connected to their culture as a way of life, in some places native populations are struggling to maintain their traditions in a rapidly closing in modern world. Many tours will showcase local artists, visit native villages, present traditional foods, and you may learn a word or two in their language!
