  • There are many grades of difficulty in river rafting. Be sure you know what you're signing up for! White water is a thrill but not what you want to do if you were looking forward to drifting calmly downstream.
  • Heed age restrictions. White water rafting can be dangerous, and children under a certain age should not participate - mainly because they're too light. 
  • Often, tours will incorporate river rafting into their activity list. So it's possible to find a trip that doesn't focus exclusively on river rafting, and leaves a lot of room for other outdoor interests you may have.
