What travelers are saying

"Epic Journey to Africa with SmarTours Smartours was amazing in Africa. We had a great tour guide. 5 Star hotels and transportation. We embarked on many safari adventures across Africa. We had the incredible opportunity to witness the magnificent "Big Five" animals, including lions, rhinos, elephants, buffaloes, and leopards. We even had the thrilling experience of walking alongside wild lions and riding an elephant named Coco, accompanied by guides armed with rifles and shotguns for our safety, protecting us from lions, leopards, and poachers. Enchanting us with its grandeur, the mesmerizing Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe and Zambia, known as the "Smoke that Thunders," captivated our admiration as the largest waterfall in the world. Embarking on a journey along the Zambezi River proved to be a thrilling adventure, as we came across the majestic hippos that call its waters home. Additionally, we were fortunate to behold the majestic Table Mountain in South Africa and set out to daringly swim with sharks. On our Journey to ALL 7 Continents, our travel experiences have taken us to incredible places all around the world. It is a matter of great pride for us to declare that we have traveled to every single Continent on Earth, placing us among a select group of fewer than 500,000 individuals throughout the entire span of human existence who have accomplished this feat. During our extraordinary journey spanning all seven continents, we had the incredible opportunity to visit remarkable destinations: - The majestic Grand Canyon. Flying over an active volcano in a helicopter and embraced the thrill of skydiving. Niagara Falls - We explored the historic remnants of the Berlin Wall and immersed ourselves in the charming atmosphere of Nyhavn and visiting The Little Mermaid. - In China, we marveled at the vastness of Tienamen Square and were in awe of the awe-inspiring Great Wall of China. We had the opportunity to visit the Shanghai Tower, which is the second tallest building in the world, and experience its impressive height firsthand. - Down in the Land Down Under, we indulged in the wonders of the Great Barrier Reef and enjoyed a memorable hot air balloon ride over the picturesque outback, where we even caught sight of kangaroos. We even partook in Cane Toad races. - We embarked on a journey to the mystical Machu Picchu, ventured deep into the enchanting Amazon Jungle, cruised along the mighty Amazon River, and admired the iconic Christ The Redeemer statue. We were fortunate to witness the breathtaking Iguazu Falls from both the Brazilian and Argentinean perspectives. Renowned as the second largest waterfall globally, Iguazu Falls captivated us with its sheer magnitude and natural splendor. - We braved the extreme elements of the coldest, driest, and windiest place on Earth—the untouched Frozen Tundra of Antarctica. We conquered the treacherous Drake Passage twice, braving the notorious Drake Shake and its towering 21-foot waves. It is renowned as one of the world's most perilous waterways. Exploring Antarctica provided us an opportunity to witness first hand the breathtaking ice formations, observe penguins, seals, whales and birds in their natural habitat. On March 17, 2023, at 3:45 pm, we achieved a significant milestone by officially landing at Orne Harbour in Antarctica, thus completing our mission to set foot on all seven continents. We had a heart-stopping thrill when our Arch-Nemesis, an Antarctic Fur Seal, nearly attacked us."

What travelers are saying

"I am profoundly dissatisfied with the level of customer service and information provided by this travel agency. Throughout the entire process, they have been unhelpful. Initially, they failed to inform us about all the necessary documents required for the trip, leading to a situation where we were unable to board our flight due to missing documentation, which was only discovered upon reaching the airport. When expressing this concern to WingBuddy, their response was that it was not their responsibility to inform us about such matters. Additionally, after being advised by them to book our own flight to Dubai and assured they would handle our return flight, we had to follow up with them multiple times to receive a response. Eventually, they informed us that we needed to purchase our own return flight, providing no assistance despite their initial suggestion. As a result, we incurred significantly higher expenses, paying three times the original cost due to WingBuddy's lack of information and assistance. Furthermore, we not only paid for the full package with WingBuddy but also had to cover the expenses for our flights to and from Dubai, as well as transportation to meet the rest of the group and entrance fees for attractions. Overall, I am thoroughly disappointed with the experience and strongly advise against booking with them."

What travelers are saying

"First, let me say our tour guide Tomomi S. is hands down THE best tour guide I’ve ever had - knowledgeable, fun and made great efforts to ensure that we were comfortable and happy (MTSobek tour guides are independent contractors. Tomomi also works for other Adventure/Tour companies) Secondly, Japan is beautiful, clean and the Japanese people are very welcoming. The hiking in the national parks was amazing. It could have been a truly five-star experience if MtSobek had not cut corners so egregiously. The website said (at the time) group tours are 5-22 people. The tour gets canceled if the minimum is not met. When I paid there were TWO other people booked-a mother and daughter duo. Shortly before our departure date I called to see if the tour would be cancelled. I wanted my money back but Mt Sobek was “pleased to say that the trip would not be canceled”. In other words, I could not get a refund. At the last minute a guy named Matt signed up so there were four of us. Five days into the trip Matt left and took a train back to Tokyo. I said to him “You realize Mt Sobek is not going to refund you”. He said, “I don’t care, Mt Sobek scammed us.” With tax, the tour costs $11,645 for 13 nights. For that price there is an expectation that the accommodations Mt Sobek chooses would be decent and clean. We all fully expected a ‘traditional Japanese experience’ which often means no private bath and 8 out of the 13 nights we slept on futon mats on the floor. However, Mt Sobek consistently booked us in the cheapest Ryokans (hotels) in each area in which we travelled. Most of these hotels were unclean and very out-dated. One Ryokan they booked us in was listed on a hotel website for $40 USD/night when there were much nicer accommodations nearby for $100 USD/night. (The Japanese yen is way down, the luxury Park Hotel in Tokyo was $200 USD/night. A comparable hotel would have been about $800/night in Austin.). We were the only people staying in several hotels that accomadated many more people. The most egregious example of MtSobek’s booking the cheapest rooms is when we were booked at a large traditional ski lodge at the base of a spectacular mountain. It was beautiful on the website but had two very different wings. One wing was modern, clean and beautiful with simple beds. The other wing was very old (similar to a cheap Motel 6 that had not been updated since the 1970’s). The carpet and bathrooms were disgusting and like many of the Ryocans where we stayed the futon mats seemed as though they had not been cleaned In 30 years. Only after our tour guide checked us in did we realize we had been booked in the cheap rooms. I asked Tomo why. Immediately someone from MtSobek reached out to me and said, “gosh, I’m sorry you did not realize you were going to have a traditional Japanese experience”. Really? “Traditional” experience depends upon one’s budget. In the US, “traditional” to some people may be the Marriott, a Motel 6 or the Four Seasons Hotels. We were paying for a Marriott experience and received the one-star Motel 6 experience. Upon arrival in Tokyo I expected to be met at the airport by a driver (as many tour companies do). However, several days before our arrival dates in Tokyo, MtSobek sent an email telling us how to locate taking a city bus from the bustling Tokyo airport. That is interesting if you do not speak Japanese. MtSobek cleverly uses great photography and elaborate descriptions of the national parks and the hiking while using terms like “traditional Japanese experience with tatami-mat sleeping” to disguise sub-standard accommodations. At one point we were looking on-line at the very hotel where we were staying and did not even recognize it from the website pictures. The hiking was amazing. The group size was disappointing with just the three of us. I would absolutely recommend a hiking tour through Japan, just not with MtSobek."

What travelers are saying

"I had an amazing time on the Costa Rica starter trip. This was my first time traveling solo and U30X was a great way for me to safely see another part of the world and meet new people. Our trip leaders were Adrian and Delphine; they were very knowledgeable and fun. It felt more like we were just hanging out with our friends who happened to know a lot about the country rather than following around tour guides."

"A Culture Trip curated trip is a must for anyone burnt out planning their own trips or going to a remote or unfamiliar area. Having a local insider was the highlight of the trip. From the moment we landed to the moment we had to go through security to leave, we were completely taken care of. Our insider gave us great recommendations for restaurants and was very adaptable to any situation that arose."

What travelers are saying

""We were under Nico, and our driver Kaitsu. our trip to Lapland was truly an adventure to remember. Accommodation was fantastic, it was Panimo cottage house, comfortable, cozy and close to the town area. Nico was thoughtful and always given us the best options and we truly enjoyed his sense of humor and charisma. His personality was an asset to the company. His knowledge was rich. Kaitsu , our driver was organised and , of course, a fantastic and a safe driver. even though, we weren't able to witness the beauty of aurora, it was all down to luck and the condition of the weather of that night. no big deal! we were not upset, mother nature! we highly recommended to everyone who seeks adventure and the courteous treatment from the staff. Thank you! you have us one of the best memories of our lives. From, Soong Kiang Chng, Melvin Yuen and Gerard , from Panimo 1, travel dates from 22nd to 28th Dec 2019.""

Blue Lagoon Tour Selection Trips

  • The number of guests allowed into the Blue Lagoon is limited per hour, so all of tickets to the Lagoon must be pre-booked. If you are on a larger tour of Iceland, your tour guide will likely do this for you, but be aware -- especially if you are visiting in the summer, these tickets can sell out months in advance.
  • If you decide to book a “standard” ticket to the Blue Lagoon, don’t worry, you can bring your own robe, towel, and flip flops.
  • Because the Lagoon is only 20 minutes from the airport, so many tours will include your trip to the Lagoon on your way to or from your flight. It’s a great way to unwind before a potentially long and uncomfortable plane ride.
  • If you want to take photos on your phone in the lagoon, bring a small plastic bag or a waterproof case.

Additional details

Blue Lagoon Temperatures & Weather

The water inside the Lagoon is usually between 98-104 degrees Fahrenheit, even in the winter, though it can fluctuate depending on the weather and the time of the year.

Outside of the lagoon, the area’s temperature is much the same as Reykjavik’s. This means that temperatures during the heart of the summer only reach around 55 degrees Fahrenheit on average. However, this doesn’t matter -- you will be nice and warm inside the Lagoon, the spa, and all of the attached buildings! There is also a low chance of rain year round.

What to Wear & Bring

If you don’t invest in one of the high end and premium packages, you will need to bring a few items along with you. For starters, you will need a towel. You may also prefer to bring a robe, sandals or flip flops, and moisturizer for after your soak. If you choose to get your hair wet, the Lagoon offers plenty of leave-in conditioner in its changing rooms, although you still may prefer to bring your own bag.

Blue Lagoon Tours

On your tour of Iceland, you will likely visit the Blue Lagoon. With that being said, one major point of confusion amongst tourists is that the Lagoon is in Reykjavik, Iceland’s capital, though that is not the trip. The Lagoon is about a 45 minute drive outside of the city, though your tour will likely provide transportation to and from this location.

If you are on a guided tour of the spa, you can expect to be given plenty of free time to enjoy the lagoon at your own pace. However, the lagoon is also a popular place for many guides to delve into Iceland’s ingenious use of and reliance on thermal and reusable energies. The depth of this explanation may vary, though if you are really interested in clean energy, consider going on an eco tour of Iceland.
