What travelers are saying

"Hello , first there is no airport transfer at all as they mentioned in the trip program , no one waited us at the airport as they mentioned that we should provide them with the flight schedule but unfortunately they neglected this service for arrivals and for departures as well , the level of the hotel in Lyon is under expected maybe 2 stars , the hotels are somewhat away from the city center which makes the transportation for the clients cost more and waste of time , the guide was very quick in her steps without even looking at the families and children and not being able to follow her . Rather , she was even quick to finish the designated program , such as presenting a program that was supposed to be for tomorrow and presenting it without justification , making one day crowded with her program and the second day on the contrary i.e there may be only one visit as it happened in changing visiting Eifel tower although it was late afternoon and the line was so crowded that took around 2 hours waited in line in order to gets tickets for the whole group while it was supposed to be on the 2nd day with scène river cruise , the stoppage in some cities as Geneva needs more than only 2 hours time while stoppage in between the cities in the rural area needs less than that time gave it to us .no flexibility in changing the program after booking even for a more advanced and valued trips ( changing not cancelling ) , it must be a meeting prepared for the group in a lobby of the hotel the night before or even if 1 hour before getting into the buses as a type of acquaintance and introduction between the members of the group ."

What travelers are saying

"The weeklong Mejdi tour of Israel I recently went on - "Dual Narrative Mult--Day Tour of Israel and Palestine" - was deeply disappointing in its failure to provide anywhere close to a balanced dual narrative about the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Our Palestinian guide gave extensive information about the Palestinian perspective on the conflict, which was quite interesting and informative, whereas our Israeli Jewish guide gave extremely little information about the conflict. I would estimate that 90-95% of the information we were provided about the conlict over the course of the week, past and present – from our two guides and from the outside speakers and museums we visited that directly addressed that issue – was from the Palestinian perspective. And our lodging was in Palestinian/Arab sections of cities all of the nights of the tour except for the first night in Haifa. As one of the very few Jewish people in my tour group, during much of the tour I felt lonely and sad at the large imbalance in the information we were exposed to about the two narratives. I realize not all Mejdi tours of Israel are likely to be this disappointing, in part because the guides are not the same for each tour group. But at the same time I would have hoped for a much more balanced experience from a tour that’s marketed as a “dual narrative” one. I gave this feedback to the Mejdi leadership right after the tour, and they thanked me for the feedback and conveyed that my experience wasn’t typical or common, but I wonder how they would know that, given that they didn’t solicit feedback from us after the tour. And I know from many private conversations with others in my tour group that, while several people on the tour were very pleased overall, there were several others who shared my disappointment. While there were a number of very interesting experiences on the trip, and Mejdi did a reasonably good job of managing the trip logistics, overall the trip was deeply disappointing for the reasons I've given above."

What travelers are saying

"Egypt – June 10 to June 16 We had planned this trip over almost two years. After looking at offerings from various vendors, we selected Memphis Tours. In a brief high-level summary, they did NOT disappoint! In rating this adventure on a 5-star scale, 5. One of my bucket list is to see the ancient wonders of the world. I’ve been to the site of the Colossus of Rhodes, the Acropolis in Athens, Colosseum in Rome, Machu Pichu, Great Wall of China, Stone Henge and now the antiques of Egypt. We structured this trip to see a lot; the Pyramids of Giza; The temples of Aswan and the temples of Luxor including the Valley of Kings. In a word WOW! To be up close, touch and otherwise experience these monuments some almost 5,000-year-old, is mind blowing. To understand the context in human history is amazing. Our trip included a mini-cruise on the Nile (WOW!). The boat the “Minerva” was good; including accommodations, staff and food. We flew from Cairo to Aswan, caught the boat, sailed from Aswan to Luxor; then flew back to Cairo to go home. Flights were included in our package. In the hope of not botching names, I’d like to call out three people: “Menna” who was our coordinator and overall “boss” of our trip. This young lady can do it all. “Mai” who was our guide in Cairo/Giza, so smart, feisty and knowledgeable in all things ancient Egypt. Lastly, but NOT least is “Waled” who took us to Aswan and Luxor. His passion and knowledge are amazing. I’m just glad there wasn’t a test after. Their in-depth knowledge of not just facts, but the whys are incredible. Memphis Tours – be glad you have these folks on your team!"

What travelers are saying

"I didn’t take this tour exactly, but made some changes based on my schedule and interests and travel dates. It was my first time in Southeast Asia and I was a traveling solo female. Liz my trip consultant and contact person was so helpful and responsive to any and all my concerns and questions. It was a trip of a lifetime. I can not gush enough about the itinerary and experiences. I am completely impressed with is company and this person. Ya ya in Chang Mai and Sam in Bangkok are top notch guides. The diving in Phuket was arranged with Siam diving, a small private boat not an over stuffed crowded one. It felt like we were the only people in the ocean. Goo, GO, GO!!!!"

What travelers are saying

"We joined the Intrepid “Real Italy Food Tour” and enjoyed it thoroughly. Our tour guide, Micol, was very knowledgeable and provided us with lots of good information. It seems Micol knew many of the staff of the venues we visited, including the pasta making class we attended. Our group of 11 travelers was extremely compatible, which greatly added to the fun and enjoyment."

Hiking & Walking, Holy Land

What travelers are saying

"We spent two wonderful weeks touring several of the best destinations in Portugal & Spain with a group of 16 people. Our guide (Fredy) was from Spain and intimately familiar with the region, including its rich history, attractions, and food/beverages. The tour was well-paced using a combinations of private vehicles (small buses and cabs), trains, and an airplane ride as well as a fair amount of walking to get around these two beautiful countries. We extended our stay in Lisbon to see more attractions and took a side trip to Fatima, Obidos, and Nazare that was also excellent. Would have liked to have a bit more time in a couple of the cities, but we'll just have to plan another trip!"

Holy Land Tour Selection Trips

  • Some religious sights require being covered. Make sure to bring clothing that covers your shoulders (a short-sleeve shirt should suffice) and bottoms that cover your knees.
  • Wear comfortable shoes. Israel streets are uneven and you will often find cobblestone.
  • Bring layers if traveling in winter – a light-weight rain coat, a hat and gloves will be useful during this time. This is the rainy season in Israel.
  • Summers are hot, ranging form high 80s and 90s in the city, and soaring over 100 degrees in the desert and The Dead Sea. The sun is strong, so bring a hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen to protect yourself from the rays.
  • Public toilets charge 1 sheckle to use. (More about currency further down).
  • For travel converters, Israel uses three-prong plugs. Their electricity is 220 volts, so if bringing items such as hair tools, (straighteners, dryers) or toothbrushes, make sure to bring the converter. Most electronic devices such as phones and laptops have dual voltage, so there is usually no need for the converter, just the plug adaptor (three prong in the case of Israel).
  • Three languages are spoken in Israel – Hebrew, Arabic, and English.
  • Tipping in restaurants if often around 10%.

Additional details

So, you have decided you want to make a trip to visit the Holy Land. You’re curious about what all these trips entail? What the weather will be like? What are the must see destinations?

What are the countries of the Holy Land?

countries that are in the Holy Land are Israel, Jordan, and the Palestinian Territories. Most Holy Land tours run somewhere between one week and two, depending on the route. If you’re going for a week long visit, most trips start and end in Tel Aviv, a modern city on the beautiful Mediterranean, or in the historic city of Jerusalem.

Common stops on the tour include The Dead Sea, Jerusalem, Bethlehem, Nazareth, Jaffa, and Masada. When people think of visiting the Holy Land, they think of visiting the Basilica of the Annunciation, built on top of the Virgin Mary’s home where the announcement of the birth of her son took place. People dream of a boat ride on the Sea of Galilee, or floating in the salty Dead Sea, the lowest point on earth.

Spend a morning strolling through the historic city of Jerusalem, filled with cobblestone streets, complete with a visit to the Western Wall, and an afternoon following Via Dolorosa, following the path Jesus took on his way to his crucifixion. Depending on the Holy Land tour you select, there are some with easy/light physical activity, as well as some with more strenuous activities.

What is the weather like in the Holy Land?

The weather will depend on what time of year you go. While it’s always a good time to visit the Holy Land, winters are rainy and can start off chilly, but by afternoon, you could be able to go out without a jacket. In January, the weather in Jerusalem averages around 54 degrees F. Tel Aviv is a bit warmer, with a January average of 64 degrees, and about ten days of rain. Similar weather is likely if you visit the Dead Sea, with winter averages of low 70s.

Summers are peak travel season, filled with hot and dry days. Averages in Jerusalem from June-September range from highs in the mid 80s, with lows in the high 60s. Jerusalem averages 0 days of rain during this period. You will have similar weather in Tel Aviv, but nights are a bit warmer, averaging low-mid 70s.

As most tours visit the Dead Sea, it’s important to point out that summers are extremely hot. Averages are in the upper 90’s, and often times exceed 100 degrees F. Many people still make the trip with this heat, but it’s necessary to come prepared with proper protection from the deep sun, including hats, sunglasses, and sunscreen.

Spring and Fall are good times to visit as well, getting between season weather. While you will still average mid 80’s to low 90s in the Fall (September-November) if you visit the Dead Sea, Spring is a nice time to visit, with March and April averages in the high 70’s-low 80’s. Tel Aviv averages mid 70s in the Spring, and mid-70’s to mid-80s in the Fall. Both periods average between 2-5 days of rain during Spring and Fall months. Expect similar rain fall in Jerusalem, but a bit cooler weather, with averages in the 60’s-70s in Spring and Fall.

Is it safe to visit the Holy Land?

Yes, it is Safe to visit the Holy Land. Over 3.6 million people visited the Holy Land in 2017! Booking group tours is a great way to ease your mind, knowing that you are in good hands with professional tour guides who know the ins and outs of the city. Tour guides can provide insider tips that you may not find on your own! As with any travel, take precautions such as not flashing your money around, and not wearing expensive jewelry.

Other crucial information for visiting the Holy Land

Bank information

Israel uses the New Israeli Shekel (NIS), and bills come in 200, 100, 50, and 20 shekels. Coins come in shekels of 1, 2, 5, and 10, and 50 and 10 agurot (also known as our cents). One shekel is equal to 100 agurot.

The most important tip is to remember that international travel can differ from what you are accustomed to. This isn’t anything to worry about; that’s why we travel. Travel opens up the opportunity to open our mind-  learn new perspectives, new cultures, try new food. Israel heavily focuses on political and spiritual opinions, which may be an unknown territory for those who have not spent time in the area. Use this travel as a learning experience.
