What travelers are saying

"What an incredible trip! I am so thankful to have planned my Algeria travels with Mosaic North Africa. It was packed with excitement, history, and sights. I was truly blown away by how much they were able to pack into my 12 days. Not a moment was wasted. When I arrived, the local guide team greeted me and were so kind. They worked at my own pace. They taught me about Algeria’s history, from Roman ruins to French occupations. Everything was pre-arranged, we even had police escorts in some places. My highlight was undoubtedly the 4-day desert camping. Very few can say they went so deep into the Sahara Desert. We traveled by 4×4 to see numerous ancient cave drawings, hike massive sand dunes, and camp under the stars… all the meals were delicious, cooked fresh. It was perfect. A time I will not forget, and I certainly could not have made it all happen on my own."

What travelers are saying

"We get the tripadvisor of this company from a friend of me, we get in touch with Lahcen quickly answering about all my questions, different options, when Lahcen sent options to he chose the right one for us, saying you're my family and I will chose for you guys what can do to enjoy your time. We get the airport and we call the driver we booked but no one answered, we called again Lahcen, he came to take to our hotel, the transfer was free he is the only guy which Looking to support the tourism in his country. We did four day trips with him, his service is luxury and family one, you will not understand what I am talking about if you not travel with this guys. My family wants back to be with them after our two days in Marrakech, then Lahcen give lunch at his home. Thank you Lahcen and his team to show us who are the Berber (Amazigh). We will be back soon."

What travelers are saying

"Who said you can not enjoy a long Overland Safari? I had a wonderful time during the 7 month Trans Africa. Part of the West cost of Africa was a challenge which I will remember for a long time. The scenery and wildlife from Namibia onwards was breathtaking. The younger generation on the truck gave me the challenge to do things I always was to scared to do in my live. I did tandem skydiving, quad bike riding in the sand dunes, white water rafting on the Zambezi river, bungy jumping of the Victoria Bridge and the micro light flight over the Victoria Falls. Our driver Brian was excellent and a good mate. All in all I can recommend the tour to people who like something more exciting than a standard organised tour. A truly memorable experience of a lifetime."

What travelers are saying

"We had the best experience ever in Morocco. I can highly recommend Sahara Magic based on my personal experience. I really loved how they arranged everything for us and being so considerate about everything. Also our driver guide Rashid was a great man and looked after all of us. He was funny too!! We had free time to explore local places on our own with great recommendations from Rashid . Our 7 days trip covers a diverse country ranging from fertile fields, snowy mountains, desert sand dunes and breathtaking landscapes as well as cities, old towns and mountain villages, each with their own unique characteristics and people. The trip offers the opportunity to not only experience Morocco's wonderful landscape, but also to meet the people and to learn about their culture and way of life. I and my friends had a great time and learnt a lot along the way thanks to our driver Rachid. Would highly recommend Sahara Magic. Thanks a lot."

Atlas Mountains, Fez, Marrakech

Highlights

  • Offering Morocco tour Packages is easy, but opening opportunities for travelers to immerse in the culture by visiting highly regarded sacred places like an overnight visits to Moulay Idriss were prohibited to non-Muslims until 2005. Experience a home stay with a charming local family; spontaneous opportunity can be created right on the spot when often you are invited to a cooking demonstration by the ladies of the house.
  • You have time to explore the exotic day market, or simply enjoy plenty of time to practice your photography among the vivid blue and bright whitewashed houses of Chefchaouen and other northern villages
  • Enact a glorious medieval era still in full function today in the Medina of Fes and explore the magic of a place suspended in time. Enjoy walking cobbled stone small streets of the medina like Paul Bowles did with best of local guides to show you the way while others are completely lost or visit the strict minimum of this mysterious Medina of Fez.
  • Contemplate under the African skies over the dunes of Merzouga, an ocean of sand under your feet and an ocean of bright stars at the tip of your fingers. This is Magic of The Sahara Desert and the sheltering Skies of Morocco.

What travelers are saying

"A Culture Trip curated trip is a must for anyone burnt out planning their own trips or going to a remote or unfamiliar area. Having a local insider was the highlight of the trip. From the moment we landed to the moment we had to go through security to leave, we were completely taken care of. Our insider gave us great recommendations for restaurants and was very adaptable to any situation that arose."

Marrakech Tour Selection Trips

  • Do you plan on going to Marrakech to relax and soak in the culture, or do you plan on being active? If you want to be active on your trip, definitely consider camping the Sahara or going on a cycling tour of the city. If you want to relax, maybe splurge on a trip with premium accommodation -- this way, your hotel will likely reflect the beautiful architectural style of the city, and you will be fully immersed.
  • Marrakech is well known for its delicious cuisine (which some consider to be a perfect blend of African, Jewish, and French cooking) and also its wines. Because many Muslims in Marrakech don’t drink, it may be especially hard to do wine tasting on your own. If you care about the culinary heritage of Marrakech, we recommend you go on a wine and culinary tour.
  • Marrakech is best known for its cultural attractions, and as a result many tours going there are not physically demanding. This makes Marrakech a popular destination amongst the 50+ crowd, and those simply looking for a trip with an easy physical level.

Additional details

Is Marrakech safe?

Many tourists have heard that there are Marrakech travel warnings, however, the U.S. government currently only has a Level 1 Travel Advisory for Morocco (exercising normal precaution). The short answer to this question is yes, it can be, although you do need to be aware of a few things.

While Marrakech does not have a high crime rate, your biggest safety concern while visiting this city will be petty theft. Pickpocketing and bag snatching can and do happen when the victim is not paying attention, especially in crowded places, like the open air markets or popular tourist sites.

Another thing to keep in mind are potential scams. These are relatively common, but can be easily avoided. When someone appears to be doing something out of the kindness of their heart, like helping you find your way, they oftentimes expect a tip. Not only this, but they may ask for quite a bit of money, and become upset if you don't pay up.

The best way to avoid this by any circumstance is to settle your fees for anything ahead of time; for example, negotiate the price of your rickshaw ride before you get in, not after, and be try not to accept “help” from men who seem too eager to give it.

Finally, all of Morocco (not just Marrakech) does have a problem with female harassment. While this is not usually dangerous, it can be upsetting and is best avoided. Some of the ways to reduce unwanted attention is to dress like the locals do: this means covering up your arms, and wearing a lengthy skirt that reaches at least your knees (a maxi skirt would be even better). Sunglasses can prevent accidental eye contact, which can be interpreted as flirting in Morocco.

Of course, the best way to avoid all of these problems is by going on a guided tour of Marrakech. Your guide will know the city inside and out, and thieves, hawkers, and catcallers are less likely to make a move if they see you are with a local.

What to Eat in Marrakech

  1. Mint Tea. A delicious glass of Moroccan mint tea is the go-to drink in Marrakech. This is sold at most cafés, and served with plenty of sugar, though depending on where you have a cup, they may have put their own unique spin on it.
  2. Couscous. Although this starch is now commonplace worldwide, it is native to Morocco and should be easy to add as a side to any meal.
  3. Tagine. This Moroccan staple is a stew made in a clay pot. It can meat based or vegetarian, and is served in the pot it was cooked in with a conical clay cover over it.
  4. Pastille. I will always have the memory of when I first tried this dish, made essentially chicken in flaky pastry dough, with powdered sugar on top. It’s incredibly delicious, the sweet and salty flavors go perfectly together.
  5. Brochettes. This the Moroccan version of kebab. It’s a typical street food, with the skewered meat being cooked on a smoky grill in open market.
To make sure you don't miss any of these classics, and try a whole lot more, go on a culinary tour of Marrakech

Marrakech Weather

July and August are the hottest months in Marrakech, with temperatures soaring up to the mid 80’s (Fahrenheit) on average. The coldest months are January and December, where temperatures average in the high 50’s.

As a result, the best times to visit Marrakech are during the spring and autumn, where the temperature is most pleasant and you can avoid the tourist crowds. You also avoid the main holiday season that takes place in the winter, when both Christmas and Ramadan is celebrated.
