What travelers are saying

"We have loved Gate 1 and always sing their praises. We've been on 7 tours with another one booked for fall. We were supposed to leave for Ecuador this week, however the country is in a 60 day state of emergency with the escape of 2 infamous gang members. Tourists are advised to stay indoors and there is a daily curfew from 11pm-5am. (our flight was to land at 11:15pm). Our trip included stays in 2 of the main cities of unrest. There have been shootings, car bombings, hostage taking, closing of embassies, and other countries issuing do not travel warnings. Other tour companies have cancelled tours or offered refunds or rescheduling. Travel insurance does not cover wars or civil unrest, but we are clearly afraid to go there. Both we and our travel agent have reached out multiple times with our concerns and asked if we could reschedule or get some sort of credit. We continue to get the same reply either in person or via email...Gate 1 has your safety as our highest priority and we feel you are safe ("they are not targeting tourists") and your itinerary should not be impacted. What? Their highest priority is $ and not our safety. There is no way that's the tour we anticipated. We cancelled the trip and took a 90% penalty, loss of deposit, and $276 airline penalty. It's a LOT of money, but we would have been terrified, and it's not worth getting hurt or worse. Sorry, but it's not the company I want to do business with in the future."

What travelers are saying

"It was a very eventful itinerary that allowed us to see 8 countries in two weeks. The tour was very fast paced in order to accomplish the advertised program and it felt rushed. In order to travel to 8 different European countries, you have to expect that there will be a lot of coach seat/drive time. Our tour guide Jemma and coach driver Gabriel were very professional and focused on meeting Expat Explore’s tour destination requirements. Jemma always provided interesting information and tips about the cities and sites that we were visiting. Our driver Gabriel always got us to our destinations on time and safely. The included and optional excursions were conducted at a moderate to swift walking speed, at some places there was no time to take pictures. Some of us found it difficult to keep up with the group, and once caught up to the group, who were at a stopping/rest point, it was time to resume the walking tour which did not allow some of us to catch our breath. You have to keep in mind that this tour is a “budget” tour. With that in mind, some hotels were sub-standard. The Paris hotel had mold in the shower. As expected, some hotels did not have air-conditioning, and other hotels which did have air conditioning were not adequately able to cool the room. The included tour dinners and lunches were very average. We had better dining experiences when we were left on our own when we used our free time. Overall, we were pleased to see all European countries/cities/sites included in the tour. This review was submitted to Expat Explore to be posted. I believe that Expat Explore only posts 4 and 5 stars reviews on their website which gives a misleading impression of the services they provide."

"We just finished our Tanzanian Adventure tour to Tanzania and Zanzibar. It was a dream come true trip! On safari, our guide Augustine, was stellar, and our driver, Meshak was wonderful! The lodges on safari were wonderful, food excellent. The Breezes resort on Zanzibar was lovely and the Indian Ocean is sooooo warm! Thank you, Odyssey, for delivering on all counts!"

What travelers are saying

"Hello , first there is no airport transfer at all as they mentioned in the trip program , no one waited us at the airport as they mentioned that we should provide them with the flight schedule but unfortunately they neglected this service for arrivals and for departures as well , the level of the hotel in Lyon is under expected maybe 2 stars , the hotels are somewhat away from the city center which makes the transportation for the clients cost more and waste of time , the guide was very quick in her steps without even looking at the families and children and not being able to follow her . Rather , she was even quick to finish the designated program , such as presenting a program that was supposed to be for tomorrow and presenting it without justification , making one day crowded with her program and the second day on the contrary i.e there may be only one visit as it happened in changing visiting Eifel tower although it was late afternoon and the line was so crowded that took around 2 hours waited in line in order to gets tickets for the whole group while it was supposed to be on the 2nd day with scène river cruise , the stoppage in some cities as Geneva needs more than only 2 hours time while stoppage in between the cities in the rural area needs less than that time gave it to us .no flexibility in changing the program after booking even for a more advanced and valued trips ( changing not cancelling ) , it must be a meeting prepared for the group in a lobby of the hotel the night before or even if 1 hour before getting into the buses as a type of acquaintance and introduction between the members of the group ."

Warsaw Tour Selection Trips

  • The Royal Castle tour is 35 dollars and is open everyday except Mondays. The huge structure is hard to miss when making your way into Old Town and is accessed easily by tram or bus.
  • The Warsaw Rising Museum is made up of many exhibits and can be quite a maze to make your way through. Each exhibition is organized in chronological order, although it is very easy to get lost and end up in the wrong tour. Therefore, you should always follow the signs. There is also a great audio guide that is extremely insightful and allows you to stay on the path.
  • When visiting Majdanek, the Nazi German camp, it is recommended to look up the weather due to the tour being mostly outside. The entire site it huge, so be prepared to spend hours taking in information and wear proper shoes for walking.
  • When visiting Warsaw's Palace of Culture and Science, you will want to make your way to the “XXX Floor”, which is the 30th floor viewing terrace that reaches 375 feet above Warsaw giving you an exquisite 360 degree view of the city below.
  • Old town of Warsaw at night is a great place to try some Polish foods and great tasting craft beers. If you are tired of traditional Polish food, you should try the pizza at Same Krafty which has pizza just as tasty as the beer.
  • Old town is basically in the middle of everything there is to see in Warsaw. It is very easy to get around the area just by walking. Transportation is also efficient and inexpensive. You can choose to take a bus, train, or metro.

Additional details

Where is Warsaw?

Warsaw is a city located in Masovian Voivodeship, Poland. It is the capital of Poland and is its largest city with 1.7 million inhabitants. Warsaw is an alpha global city, which means that it is an extremely important node in the global economic system. With Poland being home to many UNESCO World Heritage Sites, Warsaw's’ Old Town holds a spot on that list.

Warsaw boasts of diverse architecture which reflects the city's tumultuous past, ranging from Gothic churches and neoclassical palaces to modern skyscrapers and Soviet-era blocks.

The city is  is very close to the other surrounding polish cities. The distance between Warsaw and Krakow is 167 miles while its distance to Lublin is only 95 miles.

When is the Best Time to Visit Warsaw?

The peak months to visit Warsaw are between May through September with temperatures fluctuating in the 60s and 70s. It also rains during this season so be sure to pack an umbrella. Although, there are more crowds in comparison to the colder months, the many seasonal activities make up for it.

With the summer months comes big events like Chopin Summer Concerts where you can hear talented young musicians and world renowned pianists. There are also Warsaw Summer jazz days as well as an International Street Art Festival.

If you're looking to travel to Poland on a budget, you will find cheaper tickets during the colder months of December through February when weather is a chilly 20 to 30 degrees.

Is Warsaw Safe?

Violent crime is almost non existent in Warsaw. With a safe rating of 80.7, it is ranked 16th out of 113 on the ranking of the safest and most dangerous cities. The occasional pickpocket on public transport will occur, but other than this it's is an extremely safe location. For female travelers, it is safe but traveling anywhere you should always use common sense.

One area to avoid as a traveler in Warsaw is Praga. Northern Praga can be dangerous at night and is considered to be the poorest part of the city. The highest amount of crime occurs here in Warsaw.

During spring time, Warsaw may flood in certain areas. Other natural disasters are highly unlikely to occur.

Getting to Warsaw

The easiest and most convenient way to reach Poland capital is by air. There are two international airports in the city that connect the city to the world. Warsaw Chopin Airport is at a distance of about 10 kilometers from the city center and is connected to the city through five bus lines. You can also take a taxi or choose the railway to travel to the city.

Warsaw Modlin Airport, located 35 km from the city center, is a smaller airport and hosts only budget airlines. Take a ModlinBus from there that works 24 hours a day and takes about 50 minutes to reach the city center. If you choose to travel by train, that will be an 1 hour and 15 minutes journey. A taxi is also an option.

Three train stations in Warsaw provide service for domestic as well as international trains. Warszawa Centralna, Warszawa Zachodnia, and Warszawa Wschodnia. You can purchase the tickets online or from the ticket windows at the stations.

Dworzec PKS Warszawa Zachodnia is the only bus station that facilitates national and international bus connections. Tickets can be purchased online or at the station.
