San Cristóbal/Palenque Research Trip

Join National Geographic Creative photographers Michael and Jennifer Lewis for a six-day photo trek to enchanting Chiapas, Mexico. Improve your photography skills and discover one of the most amazing parts of Mexico. We’ll visit the colonial town of San Cristóbal de las Casas, vibrant indigenous villages, stunning Mayan ruins (Palenque, Bonampak and Yaxchilan), and the lush mountains and exotic rivers of Chiapas. This is a “research” trip, where you will follow us as we shoot photos of the sites that we will visit in October 2017. We’ll offer informal photo instruction without any classroom sessions. You can shoot photos while we work and we can talk photography and travel in the evening or during our travel times. At the same time, we’ll take you to places that will inspire you to make great images and to tell the story of your visit to Chiapas. This trip is organized more loosely than a photo tour. We might make changes to the itinerary the day before or we might make a change based on the weather. This is a tour for people who don’t need a rigid tour schedule and who want to get some photo instruction at a bargain price! In this era of digital photography, the workflow and post-production work are nearly as important as capturing the image in the first place. We’ll talk about beginning with a good image, then we’ll talk about how we catalog, organize and edit our photos. We have been to all of these locations, and we are staying at highly rated hotels.
