Description |
Canoe down the Belize River and enjoy the wildlife that calls the riverbank home. You will also learn about the history of the river, which used to be a major trading route in historical times. At the end of each day of paddling, enjoy the sunset from our campsite while our cook prepares you a local meal by the campfire. And if you are adventurous, our guides will take you on a night expedition to see crocodiles while paddling your canoe on the river. The Belize River was once used as a major trade route, shuttling goods between the Mayan ancient cities both in ancient times and colonial times. The British loggers even used it to transport mahogany tree trunks to the Caribbean Sea. The Belize River is 180-miles (290km) long, making it the longest river in Belize. It drains more than one-quarter of the country. Also known as the Old River, the river is navigable up to the Guatemalan border. |
Despite its compact nature, Belize offers a huge range of activities and attractions. Home to the second-longest barrier reef in the world, it’s an incredible place to dive or snorkel due to its warm Caribbean waters and abundant marine life. |
