The Arctic’s scenic extremes have long beguiled visitors. In the far north of Svalbard, in the Norwegian Arctic, you’ll see glacier fronts, icebergs and mountainscapes. Thousands of guillemots turn towering cliffs into a riot of movement. In other parts, it’s the encompassing stillness that can stagger you — lonely bays dotted with icebergs, or an unbroken bed of sea ice engulfing the horizon line. Day 1 : Longyearbyen
Today you begin your journey by boarding your international outbound flight to Longyearbyen. Arrive in Longyearbyen and transfer to your hotel.
Day 2 : Polar Cruise
After a morning to explore Longyearbyen and the excellent museum you will board the ship and set sail along the fjord. (Twin private cabin with window included in this itinerary).The itinerary that we have included here is what you are likely to do but please bear in mind that all plans are subject to change by the captain and expedition leader dependant on conditions at the time.
Day 3 : Polar Cruise
Visit the 14th July Glacier and the research base of Ny Alesund.
Day 4 : Polar Cruise
Explore the whaling station at Smeerenburg.
Day 5 : Polar Cruise
Experience the surreal ice sculptures of Sparreneset.
Day 6 : Polar Cruise
Visit the northern island of Phippsoya.
Day 7 : Polar Cruise
Keep an eye open for polar bears on Kvitoya.
Day 8 : Polar Cruise
Beluga whales are often in the waters here and the best place to see them is from the deck.
Day 9 : Polar Cruise
Go kayaking in the quiet waters near Sundneset.
Day 10 : Polar Cruise
Reach the most southerly point as you round the south western corner of Spitsbergen .
Day 11 : International return flight
Sailing up through dramatic scenery you make your way north again toward Longyearbyen.Disembark in Longyearbyen and fly south to Oslo to continue your homeward journey. Your return flight will arrive the same day.
