Description |
July to September is one of the most exciting months of the great migration as the herds move further into the Northern Serengeti and toward the Mara River. At this time of year, you can witness thousands of wildebeest battling their way through the waters and trying to avoid the crocodiles. The best place to be is in the Northern Serengeti or across the river in the western part of the Maasai Mara. Olakira once again is a good option (having moved from the Southern Serengeti) May the Serengeti wildebeest all seem to be moving north, migrating to seek fresh grazing and water. The area around Moru Kopjes and west of Seronera is then hectic with a series of moving columns, often containing hundreds of thousands of animals- joined by many zebra, and a scattering of Thomson’s and Grant’s gazelles. Some of the migration then head due north of Seronera, but most are usually further west. Around June the wildebeest migration is often halted on the south side of the Grumeti River, which has some channels which block or slow their migration north. |
With plentiful ways to experience the culture, we give you a chance to interact with locals and enjoy the glorious scenery in many places, In many areas, rural life is an attraction on its own. This cultural safaris, let you walk and live with the Maasai, visit their traditional bomas (settlements), traditional medicine walks, hunting with the Hadzabe bushmen, gather roots and seeds with the Datoga women.
