Description |
Our 8 day LuxVenture trip offers rugged sophistication, remote locations, moonlit merriment and "wild" wildlife interactions. Experience the raw thrills of the African bush, make a genuine connection with the Tanzanian people and leave your own lasting legacy. Each safari tented camp has been road tested by our team within the last 12 months to ensure it meets our exacting standards. This trip is certainly not for everyone but for those brave enough to commit, you will leave Africa transformed. |
Expect In Africa Safari offer an opportunity for those solo-travelers who really want to go safari alone, destinations like North Tanzania & Zanzibar and the other Indian Ocean islands are an attractive proposition. For those with time on their hands and wanting to gain a deeper understanding of the country as well as give back, volunteering with a local Tanzanian non-profit to contribute to their community development or conservation work can give a real sense of purpose and a feeling of satisfaction to your solo travel adventures. You are far more likely to get a solo travel deal in Green Season when both rates and demand are lower than peak season. Green Season has plenty of advantages, not least of which are more options for single travellers. Lodges and camps that waive single-supplement charges will often only do so on one room. The earlier you begin planning, the better your chances of securing that room for yourself. |
Day 1: Arusha
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner
Accommodation: Lake Duluti Lodge Luxury lodge
All drinks (Except for spirits/liquor)
Main Destination: Mount Kilimanjaro
Watch the famous Kilimanjaro mountain rise up over the horizon as you fly into Kilimanjaro International Airport in Tanzania, near the northern Tanzanian border. Your Ker & Downey Africa adventurist will meet you from your flight and transfer you the short distance to the first stop on your LuxVenture trip, Lake Duluti Lodge.
Lake Duluti Lodge is situated on the banks of Lake Duluti, within a 31 acre coffee plantation, and to the South of Arusha National Park. It consists of 18 classic style chalets on a full board basis.
Although your stay here is limited to an afternoon and early morning, we recommend that you make the most of its stunning location by borrowing a kayak and heading out onto the lake. Alternatively enjoy a hike through the trails that wind their way through the coffee plantation or get a tour of the working farm.
If you are travelling as a family, the lodge can accommodate children free of charge.
Day 2-3: Tarangire National Park
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner
Accommodation: Nimali
Luxury tented camp bordering Tarangire NP without fences
All drinks (Premium wines & liquors might be excluded)
Main Destination: Tarangire National Park
You will spend the next two days exploring the Tarangire region. Enjoy day and night time game drives (which opens up a whole range of nocturnal species for you to discover). Expect to see giraffe, elephant, buffalo as well as the occasional lion or leopard. On our last visit to the park in June 2017, we were fortunate enough to sight a leopard up a tree, a rare sight indeed!
We strongly recommend foregoing the 4x4 on one of the mornings and embarking by foot on a guided walking safari along the dried river bed that runs parallel with Nimali Tarangire camp. It will give you a new found appreciation of the African bush and the smaller members of the animal kingdom.
Nimali Tarangire is a classic tented safari camp that offers comfort, exclusivity and style. Situated in a remote location, bordering the park and featuring only six suites as well as its own library, mess tent and swimming pool (overlooking a watering hole), you are guaranteed an intimate and sophisticated experience.
Day 4-5: Ngorongoro Crater
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner
Accommodation: Lemala Ngorongoro
Luxury tented camp located on the crater rim of Ngorongoro
All drinks (Premium wines & liquors might be excluded)
Main Destination: Ngorongoro Crater
On the morning of your fourth day, you will drive to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. En-route you will explore another of Tanzania's famous reserves, Lake Manyara National Park, where you will experience a completely different (aquatic) habitat to Tarangire or Ngorongoro.
Your next two days will be spent at Lemala Ngorongoro, a luxury tented camp on the north-eastern rim of the crater - providing you with the perfect vantage point. Lemala Ngorongoro Tented Camp guests can be down on the floor of the crater within 15 minutes of leaving camp, as opposed to the usual one hour journey of other camps in the region.
As for adventure, the experiences available in and around the crater ensure thrills in large doses. Daily game drives through the crater and guided walks along the rim of the crater offer up wildlife encounters at every step and point you could ask for while the unique Maasai boma experience allows you to truly connect with the local people of this famous region.
Day 6-7: Central Serengeti
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner
Accommodation: Nyaruswiga
Luxury+ tented camp located inside Serengeti NP
All drinks (Premium wines & liquors might be excluded)
Main Destination: Serengeti National Park
Depending on what time of year you choose to travel with us, we will select a luxury tented camp that gives you the very best chance of sighting the maurading herd of wildebeest and zebra (also known as the Great Migration). We've chosen to feature one of our favourite camps in the Central Serengeti, Nyaruswiga, to give you a taste of what you have in store. Situated right in the heart of the Serengeti, Nyaruswiga is best visited in June, November and December.
From mid-July to late October, we would look to situate you in the northern part of the Serengeti, in or around the Lamai region. We may even recommend a night in the Masai Mara. From early January to late February, we would select a camp in the south of the Serengeti or in the Ndutu region.
Nyaruswiga epitomises the kind of camp that we are known for. It oozes style, sophistication and adventure. Hemmingway would have been right at home and so will you if you share the same adventurous spirit and love of safari.
Day 8: Departure

One of the largest national park in Tanzania located in Manyara region, this place is characterized by the large herds of elephants, tree climbing lions, and the fascinating baobab trees also called the Tree of Life for its almost mythical powers that some cultures attach to it. This park is especially known for Tarangire River which flows all year round and the only source of water for wild animals during dry seasons.
Day 3: Drive to Central Serengeti
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner
Accommodation: The-Whisper Tented Camp {Comfort Style}
Your drive this morning takes you to Olduvai Gorge for a brief visit to one of archaeology’s most historic discoveries. After excavating the site for more than 28 years, Mary and Louis Leakey unearthed one of the world’s most dramatic discoveries- the partial skull of ‘Nutcracker Man’- dating back 1.75 million years. Their later discovery of Homo habilis (Handy Man) added to the debate of the origins of the first human and continue outside the Crater,
Day 4: Game tour-Serengeti
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner
Accommodation: The-Whisper Tented Camp {Comfort Style}
You will depart the Lodge at first light with a picnic breakfast for a big day in search of the biggest herds of the great migrations. Alternatively, as usually you may choose to enjoy a more leisurely breakfast at the camp instead of a picnic breakfast and depart with picnic lunches for a full day of game drives exploring different areas of the central serengeti. Areas that will be visited are the Retima Hippo pool, maasai and sametu kopjes and plains as well as Moru and Simba kopjes
Day 5: Game tour-Serengeti
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner
Accommodation: The-Whisper Tented Camp {Comfort Style}
Your Serengeti safari continues with a full day game drive as you explore deep into the heart of the park. If you’re on the hunt for the ‘Big 5’ then the Serengeti’s vast, fertile expanse is the perfect territory as lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo and rhino can all be found. The great benefit of having your own private guide and vehicle means that you can go wherever you want. The key is to keep good communication with your guide at all times so you see what you would like to.
Day 6: Serengeti-Ngorongoro Crater
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner
Accommodation: Farm of Dreams Lodge -Karatu
After breakfast, you'll depart for Ngorongoro Crater; considered by some to be the Eighth Wonder of the World. When you get your first glimpse of this vast, verdant caldera from the panoramic viewpoint, you'll soon understand why it has earned such a lofty reputation. Home to over 120 species of mammal including the fabled Big Five, the Ngorongoro Conservation Area is one of the most sought after safari destinations in the world. It's a particularly good place to see the endangered black rhinoceros enjoying a lonely meal out on the grass plains, as well as a place to see large numbers of hippopotamus enjoying the cool water. From the comfort of your open-top vehicle, you'll be able to observe and photograph some of Africa's most recognisable faces. The crater is home to a large number of predators including lions, leopards, cheetahs, jackals, and hyenas, as well as a large population of wildebeest, zebras, antelope, cape buffalo, and more. It is truly one of Africa's premier safari destinations.
Day 7: Drive back to Kilimanjaro International Airport {JRO}
Meals: Breakfast and Lunch
Return to Arusha (approx. journey time: 2½ hours) for lunch then transfer to the airport for your flight home.
