Itinerary: Eastern Africa High Season

Day 1: Nairobi, Kenya

The Giraffe Manor, built in 1932 by Sir David Duncan, is surrounded by 140 acres of its own park and forest with superb views of the Ngong Hills. In 1974 Jock Leslie-Melville and his wife bought the Manor and moved two highly endangered baby Rothschild giraffes to the estate, where they thrived and have produced several further generations of giraffes.

This fantastically unique manor is the only place in the world where you can feed and photograph the giraffe over your breakfast table and at the front door, and even from a bedroom window. Personally hosted, The Giraffe Manor is an elegant and exclusive small hotel with a rich blend of welcoming accommodation . The wonderful integration of the giraffes into the elegant house creates a once in a lifetime opportunity for guests to see the best of both sides of Africa blending into one memorable experience.

The Giraffe Manor also offers a uniquely untouched wilderness on the doorstep of one of Africa's most cosmopolitan cities. Guided walks through its primeval forest enable you to learn about traditional uses of the diverse flora, view some of the 180 bird species and perhaps meet a warthog or bushbuck that's wandering through the lush setting.

Day 2-4: Samburu National Reserve, Kenya

Sasaab is a sensational and stylish lodge set in a wild landscape, amongst the culturally proud and fascinating Samburu tribe. It offers an experience of rare and endangered wildlife enhanced by scenic views of the Ewaso Nyiro river- Kenya’s third largest water course.Set on half a mile of hillside, the lodge provides privacy and harmony with the environment and a taste of true African safari. Sasaab is situated in the Northern Frontier District of Kenya. The conservancy was established in 2004, it borders Samburu National Reserve.

The Samburu are a proud tribe of cattle owning pastoralists, a section of the Maa-speaking people who rely on their cattle, sheep, camels and goats for their livelihoods. They have strived to preserve much of their culture and are very proud to show their way of life to visitors, making a visit to this area an exceptional cultural experience.

Encounter a variety of wildlife on our day or night game drives. Discover lion, leopard and cheetah or the Samburu Special Five (Grevy’s Zebra, Reticulated Giraffe, Beisa Oryx, Gerenuk and Somali Ostrich)

Day 5-6: Masai Mara National Reserve, Kenya

Serian (meaning peaceful, calm or serene in the Maa language of the Maasai people) is the first charismatic bush camp of Alex Walker, filmmaker and guide in the Masai Mara. Ngare Serian Camp is an exclusive bush camp that flanks a secluded valley located alongside the Mara River.

With just four tented suites set beside the Mara River in a private conservancy, Ngare Serian is tiny and intimate. Access to this camp is by rope bridge, reinforcing the sense of isolation. Ngare Serian is perfect for people who value tranquility and privacy, or those who want to share it with their families or close friends with exclusive camp use. Freshly prepared meals are either served in the open air shaded by Serian Camp trees with spectacular views of the river or in the formal dining area. Lush trees branch out over the camp, creating a sense of intimacy with the beautiful natural setting.

Activities include twice daily wildlife drives, hot air balloon safaris over the plains (extra cost), guided bush/nature walks, bush breakfasts, sun-downers, local cultural & community visits. The area around camp is becoming increasingly busy, but this is offset by the fact that Serian vehicles, which are private for every group, range far and wide to give the best guest experience and by the fact that the camp has a private walking concession on the west bank of the river.

Day 7-8: Serengeti National Park, Tanzania

Situated in the northern most tip of the Serengeti National Park, Singita Mara River Tented Camp offers guests the chance to spend time in this stunning yet remote area, with one of the highest concentrations of wildlife in the Serengeti National Park. With endless views of the Mara River, and with the camp built to have a minimal impact on the environment to help preserve the integrity of this remarkably beautiful and delicate ecosystem. The design of the camp provides guests with an intense closeness to nature.

The camp accommodates up to 16 guests between 6 luxury tents. Two of these, known as the family tents, consist of two tents joined by a short covered walkway with shared deck. The tents are designed in a safari-elegance style incorporating lots of light and natural materials. Design features include en-suite outdoor bathrooms with a viewing section in the screen wall to allow for beautiful views from the soaking tub. In order to minimize the carbon footprint, the camp's facilities are all powered by elaborate solar-power systems. The function, aesthetic and natural setting are blended perfectly to create a striking and unique oasis of comfort amid the sweeping plains.

All normal safari activities can be tailored to suit families. There are many impressive creatures that can be seen on the plains, such as wildebeest, lions, giraffes and elephants. Other activities include swimming, walking safaris, and nighttime game drives with professional guides.

Day 9-11: Zanzibar, Tanzania

Mnemba Island Lodge is situated on the breathtakingly beautiful private island of Mnemba, a mere 4.5 kilometers off of the north-eastern tip of Zanzibar. Mnemba Island Lodge is a beach dreamers ultimate paradise experience, surrounded by an atoll of coral reefs in the Indian Ocean. Romantic views, exclusivity and rustic luxury are reason enough to enjoy the unparalleled beauty of this barefoot island paradise. A pristine swathe of beach defines the islands one mile circumference. A protection zone surrounds the island, conserving magnificent coral reefs where giant turtles, ghost crabs and spectacular tropical fish drift through the lagoons.

Mnemba Island features just 10 en-suite bandas, bordered on three sides by tropical beach forest and overlooking the beach and coral reef. Each exquisite banda has been handwoven and thatched from tree branches and traditional Zanzibari palm matting. The materials were chosen to allow the cooling sea breezes to move through the bungalow and, assisted by overhead fans, the cottages remain cool all day. From each room, a walkway shaded by swaying palm fronds leads to an en-suite bathroom decorated with splashes of vibrant turquoise. Each banda also has a spacious outdoor veranda for enjoying the beautiful setting.
