And from the popular city to the rugged land of Mani, wild and fascinating area of tribal fueding, towers and fortresses for hiking in mount Taygetos and enjoy the best seafood in Limeni village. |
Day 1: Athens – Nafplion
Departure from Athens and on our way we will reach the Corinth Canal, and enter the region of Argolis, land of Homer’s Golden Mycenae, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Dating back to the second century B.C., Mycenae was one of the major centers of Greek civilization and a military stronghold which dominated much of southern Greece. Visit the archaeological site, home to the kingdom of mythical Agamemnon. You will see the Cyclopean Walls, the Lion’s Gate, the Royal Tombs, including Agamemnon Clytemnestra’s, and the Treasury of Atreus, a magnificent 14th-century B.C. structure. Time will then be taken for a optional lunch at a nearby restaurant. After lunch through Argos proceed to Nauplia the first capital of modern Greece with its Venetian fortress of Palamidi and the fortified islet of Bourtzi. Rest of the day free to enjoy a walk in center of Nafplion
Day 2: Ouzo And Honey Tour
After breakfast in our hotel, we will depart for a culinary excursion to learn the secrets of beekeeping and ouzo production. We will “invade” a local distillery and the enchanting world of the unique Greek Ouzo and Tsipouro, and learn all about the history and production, and we will make a journey back to history admiring the distillery museum. Then after a walk through olive and orange groves for 15 minutes and we will visit a traditional honey production unit where its owner, a beekeeper, will show us the way that the beehives are maintained and harvested.
Day 3: Wine Tour
After breakfast we will depart for a daily trip to the endless vineyards of Nemea, the place where Hercules killed the lion and performed the first of his 12 labors, and we learn the secrets of wine and winemaking. We visit the archaeological site of Nemea and the stadium, a winery of the region and a traditional vinegar production unit and we taste unique varieties of wine, accompanied by Greek dishes. We meet their producers and we discuss the details of wine-making. Evening return to the hotel
Day 4: Food Tour And Cooking Class
After breakfast we will departure for a food tour in Nafplio. Carefully selected food shops to taste some of the finest cheese, wine and local products available in the city. At the same time we visit the most famous monuments of the city which introduce us to its long and wonderful history. On the way we will shop the ingredients for our cooking lesson that follow. From the ancient times Greek food culture has been associated with extrovert social dimension, combining nutritional satisfaction with communication and entertainment. An experienced local chef will be your mentor to Greek gastronomy and the use of vegetables and local product to make amazing recipes. Dinner will follow to taste the result of your effort !
Day 5: Nafplion – Mani
After breakfast, departure to cross Peloponnese to the south and reach Mani, a wild and fascinating area of tribal fueding, rugged land, towers and fortresses, covering the central peninsula
Arrival and time to relax in your hotel. Evening walk to Areopolis stone alleys
Day 6: Hiking In Taygetos
After breakfast we will depart for a hiking at one of the most scenic areas in Greece. The mountain ridge of one hundred kilometres separates Messinia from Sparta. Large gorges and canyons present a succession of habitats with various ecosystems and flora with countless endemic plants. Our route begins from the mountaineering refuge to ‘’Prophet Elias’’, the highest peak of the mountain and of the whole Peloponnese, where the view from the top is breath-taking since our gaze is fades away to all corners of the horizon. After our hiking lunch in local restaurant and evening return to our hotel
Day 7: Day Ath The Beach
After breakfast we will enjoy the day at the beach and lunch in one of the most amazing seafood taverns right on the seaside.
Day 8: Mani – Athens
After breakfast departure for Athens
