Day 1
Check-in, Registration, Welcome Dinner, Orientation
Afternoon: Registration materials will be provided upon check in at the hotel. Check in anytime after 3:00 pm.
Dinner: 6:45 pm Dinner at the hotel will be followed by a staff led orientation of the program and Washington, D.C.
Day 2
Old Town Alexandria, Mount Vernon, Udvar-Hazy Space Center
Mount Vernon, Olde Town Alexandria, Museum Visit
Breakfast: A buffet will be served at the hotel.
Morning: A visit to George Washington's home. Step into the 18th century and experience life as our founders did. Recent additions to the estate grounds include a state of the art Education Center and museum.
Lunch: Lunch at Mount Vernon or a local eatery in Olde Town Alexandria, Virginia.
Afternoon: See Olde Town Alexandria, Virginia - George Washington's downtown. As a young man, Washington surveyed Alexandria. Later, as President, he would incorporate this bustling colonial port into the new nation's capital city. Followed by afternoon museum visit.
Dinner: The group will enjoy dinner at a local restaurant.
Evening: No scheduled activities but the hotel's pool is available until 10 pm.
Day 3
Presidential Memorials, Natural History Museum, Spy Museum
Breakfast: A buffet will be provided at the hotel.
Morning: A staff led exploration of Presidential monuments includes the neoclassical memorial to Thomas Jefferson and the more contemporary park devoted to Franklin Roosevelt.
Lunch: Take two hours to have lunch and explore the Smithsonian museum devoted to natural history.
Afternoon: Journey into the world of international espionage and intrigue. One of Washington DC's newest museums focuses on one of the world's oldest professions. Examine the secret history of spies.
Dinner: Dinner at neighborhood eatery tonight.
Day 4
U.S. Capitol, Supreme Court, Smithsonian Options, Free Night
Breakfast: Breakfast will be a buffet at the hotel.
Morning: A U.S. Capitol building tour, visit to the Supreme Court and stop at the Library of Congress are on this morning's agenda.
Lunch: Lunch will be on your own on Capitol Hill.
Afternoon: Explore one or two museums at your own pace on this afternoon - Smithsonian National Air & Space, American Indian and National Gallery of Art are located within three blocks of each other so you decide where to spend your time.
Dinner: Enjoy a meal on your own.
Evening: This is your free evening. No scheduled activities but the hotel's pool is available until 10 pm and staff will provide you list of museums open late tonight.
Day 5
Memorials, Ford's Theatre, Natural Hist. Museum, White House
Breakfast: A breakfast buffet will be served at the hotel.
Morning: Explore conflicts in American History as you participate in staff led visits to the Lincoln Memorial, Vietnam Veterans Memorial and the Korean War Veterans Memorials.
Lunch: Lunch and time to explore the Smithsonian's National Museum of American History - scheduled to re-open this summer.
Afternoon: Explore Washington's newest learning facility, the 250,000 square foot Newseum - the interactive museum of news. Explore the First Amendment Gallery or any of the other topical galleries located on seven levels along Pennsylvania Avenue.
Dinner: Celebrate your last evening in Washington with your grandchild at (or near) a kid friendly venue - Hard Rock Cafe
Evening: Enjoy a visit to the neighborhood around the White House and the World War II memorial on your last night in DC.
Day 6
Wrap-up Activity, Program Concludes, Independent Departures
Breakfast: A breakfast buffet will be provided at the hotel.
Morning: A wrap up activity at the hotel is usually over by 10:00am. Check out is noon but luggage storage is available upon request if you wish to explore more of the city on your own.
