The Great Rift Valley is a wide valley that extends from Syria in Western Asia, then down through East Africa, all the way to Mozambique in Southern Africa. The separation of two plates pulling in opposite directions led to the creation of a deep valley dotted with lakes and edged by mountains and volcanoes.
