The historic fishing town of Palamos has all the ingredients for creating an amazing holiday, combining cycling and relaxation.  The surrounding area offers an undeveloped coastline, beautiful beaches with crystal clear waters, and hundreds of kilometres of designated cycle trails.  Palamos itself is a vibrant town, and is famous for its seafood and numerous tapas bars and restaurants, all within a 3-minute walk of the house.

Your base for the next 7 nights is a luxury, fully restored townhouse in the centre of Palamos, next to the old quarter, and only a 5-minute walk to some of the best beaches on the Costa Brava.

The beautiful sandy beach in Palamos stretches from the fishing port all the way to Playa Torre Valentina, which is just 3 kms from the historic village of Calonge. This is a charming coastline with a series of spectacular rocky coves and breath-taking scenery. Behind Calonge there are a number of cycle and walking paths with several vineyards worth a visit.

Itinerary: Cycle and Chill

Day 1: Arrival

You will be collected from Palamos bus station if arriving from Barcelona. A private transfer can be arranged from Girona airport at a small supplement. Welcome meeting, tour briefing and bike fitting over a glass of Cava.

Day 2: Castells Beach

Level: Easy

Distance: 20 km

Leaving Palamos, follow the cycle network heading north towards Palafrugell turning down to Castells. This unspoilt beach has no development around it, and sea kayaking is available from June to September. Return to Palamos.

Day 3: Palamos

Level: Easy

Distance: 12 km

Head out towards Calonge via the Paseo de Palamos and visit Celler Mas Eugeni for a guided tour of the vineyards and some wine tasting. Tours cost EUR 5 per person (free for children), and last about an hour. We can arrange this for you. Head back to Palamos and visit the Fish Museum in the port, then spend some time in the old quarter. If you are still in town at 4.30pm the fish auction is well worth a visit to see the fishermen bringing in their catch, and be amazed at all the strange fish eaten in this region. You could even buy some fresh fish for dinner.

Day 4: Medieval Villages

Level: Easy/moderate

Distance: 18 km

Today you will be dropped off in the pretty medieval village of Pals. You will do a circular tour of the surrounding countryside and pass through many pretty perfectly preserved medieval villages. You can visit the Museu de Confitura in Torrent and sample/ purchase some of the 120 varieties of jams/chutneys. There are great restaurants for lunch in most of the villages, Mas Pau in Palau Sator being particularly good. Back to Pals where you will have time to explore the old quarter known as el Pedro before being picked up and taken back to Palamos.

Day 5: Lazy Day

Maybe spend some time on the beach at Palamos, and the lovely La Fosca beach is just a short ride away with some great options for lunch. Or perhaps a short cycle around the vineyards at the back of Calonge. You could play paddle or tennis at the courts in Calonge village. Visit the castle. The day is up to you.

Day 6: Market Day

Level: Easy

Distance: 12 km

Visit the market in Calonge around the old church and buy some local produce for a picnic on the beach at Torre Valentino. Leave the bikes at the beach and walk the coastal path south and swim in one of the small coves or stop for a drink in the beach bar.

Day 7: Calella de Palafrugell

Level: Easy/moderate

Distance: 20 km

Heading through Palamos you follow the cycle paths past Castells and on to Palafrugell, and then down to Calella. This is one of the prettiest coastal villages in the area. There are 6 beaches to choose from with lots of places to have lunch. Then head back along the cycle network to Palamos following the route of the ‘old train’.

Day 8: Departure

Transfer back to Girona airport, or depart from Palamos bus station if travelling to Barcelona.

Day 1: Tbilisi, the capital of Georgia

Home for people with diverse cultural, ethnic and religious backgrounds. The name “Tbilisi” /warm/ was given to the city because of the area’s numerous sulphuric hot springs.

Georgian National Museum – you can see the sensational unique discoveries and artefacts of ancient period archaeological treasures; option

Day 02 : Tbilisi – Telavi – Kvareli --- Kakheti region

Drive along the “Wine Route”, through the beautiful landscape of vineyards and wine-producing villages.

Town Telavi. Administrative and cultural centre of the region. The town sits on a hilltop above the Alazani valley with the Caucasus Mountains in the background. Telavi hosted The International Festival of classical music;

The Royal castle, the pantheon and the Persian-style Palace of King Erekle II (XVIII c.)

Gremi castle – museum the royal capital city, the Royal Tower Ensemble. Historically, one of the important trading centres of this region.

Visit Wine Corporation “KHAREBA” wine degustation.

Day 03: Kvareli – Sighnaghi- Tbilisi

Sighnaghi Town of love is built on the right bank of Alazani River, on a higher hill. Royal fortified town with narrow streets surrounded by the defensive walls with 23 towers.  Here was   a place where the Georgian King used to join the army before the battle.

Dinner   the most delicious dishes are cooked with local, natural, fresh, seasonal product

Sighnaghi Historical-Ethnographic Museum where extraordinary ethnographic,      archaeological and medieval materials are kept.( expectable only first floor)

Day 04: Tbilisi-Borjomi-Aspindza

Meals: Breakfast & Dinner

Mtsketa – Town-museum. The ancient capital of Georgia. Known as “Hole Place”, is considered as the second” Jerusalem”. Situated on a plain at the confluence of the Mtkvari and Aragvi rivers, the ancient trade silk route ran here.

Svetitskhoveli Cathedral – The biggest Christian temple in Georgia. A sacred place, where the Christ’s robe is kept. UNESCO World Heritage site.

Town Borjomi – Borjomi mineral water park .A synonym for healthy, pure mineral water

Day 05: Aspindza - Vardzia

Meals: Breakfast

Vardzia (Georgian Petra) rock- cut town complex founded (12-13th cc) Golden Age period during the reign of Queen Tamar. There is – well fortified monastery with 600 apartments, 28 wine-houses, churches, library, storeroom of medicines, important political, cultural, educational and spiritual centre of the country.

Vardzia is not adapted, it is rock- cut down, but surround is very good view  and outside you can see all panoramas of these rocks town)

Day 06: Aspindza - Tskaltubo

Rabat castle, the former  largest slave bazaar till XVIII c. –  The site of ethical and religious diversity,  historical symbol of Georgian tolerance, where you can see Georgian, Armenian and Moslem  buildings of public worship standing next to each other. Within the 7 hectare castle complex there is a church, a Mosque, a Minaret and a Synagogue.

Tskaltubo is little town a spa resort that is famous for its radon-carbonate mineral springs. This unique gift of nature was not without reason called the “Living Water”. Today, modern installations give us the opportunity to treat, prevent and improve body tone.

Day 07: Tskaltubo

Batumi – one of the oldest sea-side cities in Georgia was inhabited from as early as the third century BC. Having all the resources necessary for the resort cities, at present days Batumi became the distinguished tourist center at the Black Sea cost. Batumi is always green and sparkling.

Sightseeing:

“Old Batumi” Small, white, mostly 2-3-storied 150 years old, buildings are decorated with mythical creatures with a lot of open cafes with  aromatic hot black coffee prepared on the heated sand.

PIAZZA Batumi is one of the most beautiful squares in whole Georgia is distinguished by its painting, as well as by its exquisite mosaics and stained glass windows. Piazza Square has already become the venue of numerous entertaining and cultural events.

Day 09: Batumi

Visit Gonio fortress – Roman fortification in Adjara, on the Black sea, 15 km south of Batumi, at the mouth of the Chorokhi River. The village sits 4 km north of the Turkish border.

Visit Batumi Delphinium – you can swim and take pictures with Dolphins (option);

Batumi Seaside Boulevard.

Day 10: Batumi – Tskaltubo

Batumi Botanic Garden is a unique place famous for its unique flora. It has a beautiful view on black sea and Caucasus Mountain.

Day 11: Tskaltubo- Tbilisi

Kutaisi   One of the most beautiful and ancient cities in West Georgia – Emeriti region. Kutaisi has contributed much to the process of Georgian unification. According to the legend Kutaisi was the final destination of the Argonauts.

Bagrati 10- 11th cc. Situated on the top of the hill, it was an ancient citadel, a royal palace and one of the most important castles from 6th to 17th c. nowadays it’s distinguished for its elegant proportions, grand size, facade composition, ornaments and relief carvings and included in the UNESCO World Heritage Site,
