Description |
The Ngorongoro Highlands is a dramatic range of volcanic mountains that straddles the rift valley escarpment immediately to the south of the Serengeti. The main highlight here is the Ngorongoro Crater, where virtually the whole panoply of game can be seen. The Crater itself is a 100 square mile natural amphitheater created two million years ago when a volcano imploded, leaving a 12 mile wide crater surrounded by an unbroken 2,000- foot high rim. The conservation area protects Olduvai Gorge, considered to be the seat of humanity after the discovery of the earliest known remains of human, and one of the most important prehistoric sites in the world. Serengeti National Park In the northern reaches of Tanzania, on its border with Kenya, lies one of the world’s most well-known conservation areas, Serengeti National Park. Covering a truly enormous area of 27,000 square kilometres, 14,700 of which are the National Park, the Serengeti is a world heritage site and home to an unimaginable variety of flora and fauna. It is deservedly one of the world’s great natural wonders. Spend your days exploring endless grasslands horizon to horizon, acacia woodlands, granite kopjes, tree-lined river and in the very north, rolling hills and hidden valleys. Each year, during the dry season, great numbers of wildebeest, zebra, gazelle, giraffe, eland, topi, kongoni, and impala exhaust the grazing in the southern areas of the system and migrate west and north in search of food. This leads them in a cyclical migration and their numbers support large prides of lion, as well as hyena, cheetah and leopard, not to mention river crocodiles. |
From tracking wild mountain gorillas in their natural habitat, to soaring over the plains of the iconic Masai Mara in a hot air balloon, and swimming with whale sharks in Zanzibar, we’re certain that this African adventure will be the most magical and memorable holiday you will ever take. Starting in Rwanda you’ll track endangered mountain gorillas, before spending three days in Kenya’s Masai Mara. This phenomenal holiday ends with four days on the exotic spice island on Zanzibar. |
