Take a weekend to visit the best Christmas markets Europe has to offer in the beautiful Austrian towns of Salzburg and Innsbruck! Venture to Salzburg, the birthplace of the musical mastermind, Mozart, but also the location of the world famous movie ‘The Sound of Music’. During the holiday season, Salzburg completely transforms into a winter wonderland. The charming old town is overflowing with local crafts and traditional food. Don’t forget to check out the infamous brewery, Augustiner Bräu, the world-renowned monestary brewing beer since 1621! Experience the picturesque mountain scenery while making your way to the Neuschwanstein Castle, situated on a rugged hilltop against a backdrop of the Austrian Alps. You will probably recognize it, as it was the inspiration behind the Disneyland’s Sleeping Beauty Castle and the set for many movies! Day 1:
If you choose the option 'Meet Us There' you need to plan the transportation on your own, round trip, unless otherwise specified. Arrive to accommodation in Salzburg from 4:00 pm or anytime thereafter – Smart Trip group will arrive late in the evening, please coordinate with your tour leader
Day 2:
Breakfast at the accommodation – optional Sound of Music Tour or free time to explore the Christmas Markets of Salzburg – tour leader will be available to answer questions and provide suggestions on the top areas to visit
Optional Sound of Music Tour (€35, 4-hour tour): meet tour leader in the lobby to depart by 8:45 am - Follow in the footsteps of Julie Andrews and visit many of the movie's filming locations, including the beautiful von Trapp family home. Even if you have never seen The Sound of Music, the breathtaking views and rich history make this tour a must-do during your time in Salzburg!
Day 3:
Breakfast at accommodation then depart for Neuschwanstein Castle – free tour of the Neuschwanstein Castle and free time for lunch – depart for Innsbruck and check into accommodation – free to explore the Innsbruck Christmas Markets
Day 4:
Breakfast at accommodation prior to check-out by 10:00 am - please arrange your transportation home accordingly
