Today is free for you to enjoy Whistler and the surrounding mountain landscapes. You can do this independently, with a multitude of beautiful walking trails for varying abilities, or choose to join an optional excursion to search for local wildlife which includes chipmunks, coyote and black bears. The record-breaking Peak 2 Peak Gondola offers a breathtaking way to cross between the Blackcomb and Whistler Mountain peaks, offering more gorgeous views and scenic walking trails.
Day 5 Whistler - Sun Peaks
We travel on to our second alpine-village hotel, the Coast Sundance Lodge (3T) in Sun Peaks. This car-free centre is a quieter resort and a great base for further exploration into Canada’s mountainscape, coloured by wildflowers during the warmer months of summer.
Day 6 Sun Peaks - Jasper
Today we travel to Jasper, and take a tour of the incredible National Park which shares the town’s name. This wild, 10,878 square kilometre park is home to world-famous natural sites and some of North America's rarest animals, including grizzly bears, moose, caribou and wolves. Our tour takes us to Maligne Canyon, over 50 metres deep at some points; the seasonal Medicine Lake, filled by the Maligne River and glacial water in the summer; and Maligne Lake, the largest natural lake in the Canadian Rockies, surrounded by majestic peaks. We stay at the Lobstick Lodge (3T) for two nights. Before heading to bed, take a look outside - the region boasts the world’s largest dark sky preserve for stargazing.
