Description | Glide along Germany’s charming Elbe and Havel rivers aboard the exclusively-chartered MS Johannes Brahms. Take in beautiful scenery as the ship passes through a number of historic locks and waterways, experience interesting walking tours of historic cities and charismatic towns with mesmerising palaces and churches, glorious monuments and magnificent landmarks. Unforgettable places to discover on our journey include Lauenburg, Brandenburg and the grand capital, Berlin. |
Day 1 UK - Hamburg
Titan’s VIP door-to-door travel service collects you from home, for your flight to Hamburg. On arrival, we transfer to the port and embark MS Johannes Brahms (3T+) with time to settle in as we set sail. Enjoy dinner before we begin cruising this evening.
Day 2 Lauenburg - Wittenberge
This morning we arrive in Lauenburg where we enjoy a fascinating guided walking tour of this notable historic town, with a number of pre-17th century buildings. Situated in the beautiful Lahn River valley, Lauenburg’s medieval houses were once the homes of sailors and today the town is a favourite of artists. The 13th century Maria-Magdalenen Church sits in the old town, located at the bottom of steep bluffs that confine the narrow cobbled streets leading up to the ruins of the castle. This afternoon we resume cruising along the stunning waterways before our arrival into Wittenberge this evening.
Day 3 Wittenberge - Havelberg
After breakfast, choose to leisurely explore the port of Wittenberge and its fascinating historic town. Later, we continue cruising and pass through the lock in Havelberg - the waterway connecting the Havel and Elbe since 1936. This afternoon arrive into Havelberg itself where we dock overnight. You may wish to take an evening stroll around this beautiful town, located on the banks of the waterway and home to the stunning 12th century St Mary’s church.
Day 4 Havelberg - Brandenburg
Today we enjoy scenic cruising towards Brandenburg, sailing through a number of charming water passages, all of which host delightful green scenery. This afternoon we arrive in Brandenburg where we enjoy a guided walking tour of the city viewing the main attractions. Brandenburg is a place of brilliant diversity with an array of lakes and waterways. See the remains of the medieval city walls and gate towers, or the Roland statue in front of the Gothic red-brick Town Hall, an oversized mythological knight with his sword drawn to symbolise Brandenburg’s independence in the Middle Ages.
Day 5 Potsdam - Berlin
A morning at leisure, or join a fascinating optional walking tour of Potsdam, the capital and largest city of the German federal state of Brandenburg. The royal residence of the Prussian kings until around 1918, Potsdam hosts an abundance of outstanding historic architecture including the City Palace, St Nicholas’ Church - a magnificent classicist Evangelical Church located in the beautiful Old Market Square - and the Dutch Quarter, a neighbourhood consisting of over 100 Dutch buildings. Later, we continue our voyage to Berlin for an afternoon tour. This city will forever be shrouded with the infamous wall which divided the city and families for almost 30 years; however it has bounced back from this turbulent time with an unpretentious and creative attitude. We take an included tour to Checkpoint Charlie, one of the most important crossing points between East and West, as well as restored buildings including the prestigious Reichstag, the seat of the German Parliament.
Day 6 Berlin - UK
Transfer to the airport for your return flight to the UK. Upon arrival your Titan vehicle will be waiting for the journey home.
