Itinerary: Jewish Heritage Tour

Day 1: Tunis – Arrival

Accommodation: DAR BEN GACEM  

Upon arrival in Carthage International Airport, you will be met by your private driver / guide and taken to your hotel for check-in. Depending on your time of arrival, you will begin with a tour of the old medina (ancient city) of Tunis. From the charming architecture to the picturesque souks (markets), the ancient medina is well worth a visit. Dinner will be served in the hotel.

Day 2: Bardo Museum / Carthage / Sidi Bou Said / Tunis

Accommodation: DAR BEN GACEM

After breakfast, you will set out to visit the National Museum of Bardo. The Bardo Museum contains some the most complete ancient Roman Mosaics in the entire world. From the museum, you will head off to explore the famous ruins of Carthage. Your guide will take you to the Phoenician Cemetery, Antonin’s Bath, Punic Harbors, Museum and more. Depending on your time, you may want to take a drive up to the beautiful Sidi Bou Said, which overlooks the Gulf of Tunis.

Day 3: Tunis / Kairouan / Sousse

Accommodation: MOVENPICK RESORT AND MARINE SPA

After breakfast, you will set off to the historical city of Kairouan. You will want to visit the amazing mosque of Sidi Okba, ancient medina, and Aghlabiden pool. In the afternoon you will continue your drive to Sousse. Take a walk through the old medina or a carriage ride along the coast…or simply relax in the hotel. Dinner will be served in the hotel.

Day 4: Sousse / El Jem / Sfax / Djerba

Accommodation: RADISSON HOTEL

Perhaps one of Tunisia’s most spectacular sites, El Jem is a must see. Imagine life in gladiator times as you climb the stairs of the coliseum or explore the dungeon and examine the ancient cage elevators. From El Jem, you will continue through Sfax, stopping to visit the Sfax synagogue and medina. After a short ferry ride, your final destination will be the island of Djerba.

Day 5: Djerba

Accommodation: RADISSON HOTEL

After breakfast at the hotel, you will visit La Ghriba Synagogue of Djerba. It is an important pilgrimage site for Jewish communities of North Africa and has one of the oldest Torahs in the world. Your next stop is the village of Hara Kabira, a Jewish village. Hara Kabira has around a dozen synagogues and many are still in use today. During your walking tour of the “hara”, you will stop at the communal oven of the Jewish community and hear about Shabbat meals and learn about the role of Jewish education in Djerba today. Many Jewish merchants continue to work in the town market, Homt Souk. You will have the opportunity to explore this on your own and to sit down to lunch at one of the many seafood restaurants. If you prefer, you may return to the hotel to relax by the Mediterranean Sea. Dinner and overnight in Djerba.

Day 6: Djerba

Accommodation: RADISSON HOTEL

In the morning, you will head off to Guellala to visit the Museum of Popular Arts and Culture. Here you will enjoy learning about the island’s inhabitants and culture. The afternoon will be left free to let you explore as you wish. Before sunset, transportation will be provided for those who wish to attend a Havdalah Service. Overnight in Djerba.

Day 7: Depart Djerba

Depending on your departure time from Tunis, you may overnight in Tunis or simply make your connecting flight there.

Itinerary: A Taste of Italy

Day 1: Rome

Welcome to Rome! After a meet and greet at the airport with your driver, you will be transferred to your hotel. At 8:30 pm reach the meeting point to be ready for the departure of the Rome by Night Tour. The local expert guide will lead you to discover the wonders of the Eternal City, charming by day, absolutely romantic by night. The tour ends in the Colosseum area. Enjoy on your own the rest of the night. Return to the hotel on your own and overnight stay.

Day 2: Rome > Assisi > Siena > Florence

Meals: Breakfast and Dinner

Early morning departure for Assisi. Visit the Basilica of St. Francis featuring masterpieces by Giotto and Cimabue. Continue to Siena, home of the Palio. End the day in Florence, the birthplace of the Renaissance for dinner and overnight.

Day 3: Florence

Meals: Breakfast and Lunch

After breakfast, you will spend the day venturing around beautiful Florence, the “Cradle of Renaissance, where, with the help of Michelangelo, Italian art reached its pinnacle. Spend the afternoon strolling the cobblestone streets of Florence on your own or take a short trip to Pisa (optional).

Day 4: Florence > Bologna > Padova > Venice

Meals: Breakfast and Dinner

Depart for Bologna after breakfast in Florence. Wander through some of the city’s many, elegant arcades (or porticos), for which Bologna is famous. In the afternoon, continue toward Padova, with its original Sant’Antonio Basilica. In the early evening, we will arrive in Venice. Check-in to your hotel, dinner and overnight stay.

Day 5: Venice

Meals: Breakfast

After breakfast, enjoy your private water-taxi transfer to Piazza San Marco, with “Skip the Line” tickets to visit the splendid St. Mark’s Basilica and, after this, check out the most iconic places of the “Floating City”. Spend the afternoon roaming along Venice’s canals at your leisure and then return to the hotel and overnight.

Day 6: Venice > Montepulciano (Tuscany) > Rome

Meals: Breakfast and Lunch

After breakfast, depart for Tuscany, known for its romantic churches, castles and beloved wines. Proceed to Val di Chiana with a stop in Montepulciano, a Medieval town rich with history and art. That evening we will arrive in Rome.

Day 7: Rome

Meals: Breakfast

After breakfast depart from the hotel for the included tour of the Vatican Museums, Sistine Chapel, and St.Peter’s Basilica with our exclusive “Skip the Line” access. The tour ends in St. Peter’s Square. Afternoon and evening at leisure. Meals: B
