What travelers are saying

"A Travesty of Trust - Beware of andBeyond Travel & Ryan Powell! I feel compelled to share my deeply frustrating and incredibly disappointing experience with andBeyond Travel, a company I once considered reputable and trusted for providing premium travel experiences. My trust was shattered when they displayed an appalling lack of professionalism and a sense of entitlement to our money. AndBeyond’s business practices during a period of crisis has forced me to caution fellow travelers to BEWARE OF ANDBEYOND and the hidden pitfalls of dealing with andBeyond Travel. My husband and I had planned an extensive trip with andBeyond, costing a considerable $31,580. We paid $7,588 by bank transfer and $23,992 by credit card. During the Covid-19 pandemic, the cancellation of all flights to South Africa and andBeyond closing all their camps led to the cancellation of our trip. During this tumultuous time, andBeyond offered us a deferment for a period of a year to a later date, without considering our preference for a refund. Due to the uncertainty of the future, we decided that we wanted to rebook when we felt comfortable and confident about traveling again. This unscrupulous behavior didn't end there. Once they had our money, they seemed determined to hold onto it, no matter the cost. Our dispute with the charges led us to approach Citibank, which after careful review, decided that andBeyond had no right to retain our money. They provided us with a full refund for the $23,992 we paid by credit card standing as a bulwark against andBeyond's subsequent attempts to reclaim the funds. from Citibank. However, the company, in a blatant disregard for our concerns, refused to refund the $7,588.00 that we had paid through bank transfer. With the pandemic now behind us I proposed to andBeyond that they permit us to utilize our money for future travels, given that we had received absolutely nothing in return for our payment of $7,588. This proposal was met with yet another refusal. It felt like our money was being held hostage, with us left helpless. Throughout the process of planning this trip, we were under the assurance of Jomandie Dempers, who convinced us that we were dealing with a trustworthy company. However, our actual experience was in stark contrast to this assurance. The way andBeyond handled the situation showed anything but reputability. In this day and age, where consumer reviews guide our choices and purchases, I feel it's my duty to alert others about this horrendous experience. Proceed with caution if you consider booking with andBeyond Travel. Their actions reflect a significant breach of trust, and a gross disregard for their customers' rights, comfort, and peace of mind. Be warned - don't let them ruin your travel dreams as they did ours!"

What travelers are saying

"We booked a National Geographic expedition Holland and Belgium by River. The promotional literature promised a 14-day deposit refund window. The “invoice” was marked “non-refundable” deposit. We completed the National Geographic Traveler Information. About 8 days later we received the “Travel Agreement” to be signed. We both approved and signed the National Geographic documents. A Cruise Line Travel agreement was enclosed but had no signature line. This document contained language which was unacceptable. We submitted the signed NatGeo documents. The following day we canceled the trip due to the unacceptable Cruise Line language. Cancellation was made 12 days after booking and no deposit was returned. We were told on the phone that the refund deadline was triggered by the 14 day window OR signatures on the Travel Agreement which ever came first. This was NEW information. To date, we have received NO refund of our $1000. We cancelled our trip within the advertised 14 day window."

What travelers are saying

"I took the most amazing tour across Portugal and Spain through Bestway Tours last year. It was a 10 day tour visiting historic cities across the countries and was blown away by level of service and convenience the team provided. I've learned so much through the knowledgeable tour guides and enjoyed lots of delicious local food. I cannot wait to take another Bestway Tour in the future!"

Okavango Delta Tour Selection Trips

  • Much of the best wildlife viewing in the Delta can be found in the private reserves, just outside Moremi Game Reserve (a national park), though many are accessible only by air.
  • Allow at least a week for a safari combining the Okavango Delta’s private reserves with the public Moremi Game Reserve.
  • Many tour operators combine Okavango Delta safaris with visits to Botswana’s Chobe National Park and Zimbabwe’s Victoria Falls, both nearby, while some also venture into more remote regions of the Kalahari.
  • The dry (and high) season – with the best wildlife viewing – is in July and August, when animals come to drink in newly flooded regions.
  • The hot, rainy season (November to March) can make roads difficult, but brings lush vegetation, wildflowers, lots of baby animals, and lower prices.
  • Accommodations in the Delta range from luxurious private lodges to rustic campsites.
  • The luxury lodges are among the most expensive in all of Africa -- and, in general, prices are higher in this remote region.
  • If close encounters with crocodiles and hippos make you nervous, you might carefully consider whether or not to take a dugout canoe ride – though it’s an unforgettable experience.

Additional details

Where is the Okavango Delta?

Okavango Delta is a 2 million hectare jewel of Africa, located in north-west Botswana and is mainly a mixture of seasonally flooded plains and permanent marshlands. This swampy inland delta is in the central part of Kalahari's endorheic basin, where the Okavango River reaches a tectonic trough. The water reaching here is either evaporated or transpired but never flows to any ocean or sea.

Best time to visit

Okavango Delta is a year-round destination, but what you get visiting there depends on when you are going. April to October is the dry season, while November to March is the wet season. May to August have the most pleasant weather, and you can have a great time with respect to the atmosphere.

July to October is the high season when most of the people come here to visit, and as a result, everything has a high rate at this time. September and October are extremely hot and could be inconvenient to visit. But if you go during this time, there is a huge chance to explore wildlife because the thirsty animals at that time are found on the fringes. November to March is the low season, and you can get discounted prices, especially for accommodation.

When to visit the Okavango Delta for specific wildlife

The dry months of May to August draw wildlife to the region. The rains have stopped by the time, and the water has reached the Delta attracting all the wildlife. Between the months of March to May, the grass is high with thick bushes but wet, of course, so there is a greater chance to witness big cats walking around the tracks, avoiding grass.

The weather is chilly, but you can have a good time with proper warm clothes and with all the beautiful species, visiting there in a bit of cold is really worth it. In addition to the big five, you will have the opportunity to see many predators like a hyena, leopard, jackal, etc. as well as herds of buffalo, zebra, elephant, wildebeest, etc. around the water source. Baboon, giraffe, African wild dog, and warthog can also be seen anywhere in the region.

By October, the dusty clouds start appearing through the sky, waiting to be dispersed by the summer rains. September and October attract various animals out to the water that is left now, making it easier to spot various species.

During the wet season, from November to April, with the frequent rainfall, animals go back to the deep lush green interior, but this is the time for the birdwatchers. Various species of migrant birds arrive here by that time and are nesting and breeding, meaning you have a greater chance of having an encounter with most of them. There are more than 400 bird species that make this place an extraordinary spot for bird lovers.
