Day 1: Bolzano

Our tour starts in Bolzano, the capital of the South Tyrol region and a beautiful Alpine town. You will notice a definite German influence on the architecture, language, and food. You can explore the city or venture out to the surrounding mountains to admire the beauty of the Dolomites. If you would like, you can opt to spend the night in a castle just outside of town!

Day 2: Bike Bolzano to Trento (20 or 40 miles, 225ft net elevation loss)

Our first day of biking takes us along the Adige River through a gorgeous valley. We bike past apple orchards and vineyards on a flat bike path, free of cars allowing you to enjoy the scenery. After 20 miles at the halfway point, you can either ride in the van or continue biking on to Trento.

Day 3: Bike Trento to Lake Garda (30 miles, 300ft net elevation loss)

Today we continue biking south along the Adige River. After a short uphill push we come to Lake Garda, Italy’s largest lake. We coast downhill to the lakefront town of Torbole, a great place to shop or eat beside the lake. We then take a ferry to the charming town of Malcesine where we spend the next two nights at a gorgeous lakefront hotel.

Day 4: Lake Garda Rest Day. Today is a free day to explore the beautiful lake

Set beneath majestic mountains, you will be mesmerized by how beautiful Lake Garda is. You can relax by the lake, visit the town’s castle, take a gondola up to the top of Monte Baldo, or partake in one of the many adventure activities such as mountain biking, paragliding, canyoning, hiking, kayaking, or windsurfing, among others.

Day 5: Bike Lake Garda to Valpolicella (10 miles, 30ft net elevation loss)

After a delicious lakeside breakfast, we take a ferry to the southern end of Lake Garda to the town of Bardolino where we begin biking again. We bike along the lake to the town of Lazise before heading away from the lake and into wine country. Biking past vineyards and wineries, we arrive to a stunning villa hotel in the Valpolicella region where will spend the next two nights.

Day 6: Explore Valpolicella (mileage varies)

The Valpolicella region is one of Italy’s premier wine growing regions, and biking past the vineyards and rolling hills is the best way to experience it! We will stop at a couple of the wineries, and if you decide you enjoy wine tasting more than biking then rest assu...

Day 7: Bike from Valpolicella to Verona (6 miles, 40ft net elevation loss)

Today’s shorter ride takes us to Verona, one of the most beautiful cities in Italy. Surrounded on three sides by the Adige River, Verona has buildings dating back to the Romans (including the Arena, a mini-Colosseum) and is famous for being the location where Romeo &a...

More than a trip… An unforgettable experience.

Carpe Mundo is more than just our name; it’s our philosophy- Seize the World. We help customers live life to the fullest by creating unforgettable experiences through the incredible activities that we offer on our trips. Our unique itineraries are created based on our extensive knowledge and experience in the countries where we operate tours. Exploring Europe with a small group of like-minded travelers creates a sense of camaraderie, making the trip even more enjoyable. On our trips, you will create amazing memories which you will remember for the rest of your life, such as soaking in hot springs under the Northern Lights, spending the night at a luxurious medieval castle hotel, exploring ice caves, or partaking in an Italian cooking class.

We provide a more personalized travel experience than other tour operators. We are a small, family-run operator, and our passion is creating unforgettable trips for our customers. When you contact us before your trip, you will be speaking directly with one of your trip leaders, ensuring you receive the most accurate information possible and get to know your leader before your trip begins. All trip leaders are either from the country that the tour operates in or have extensive experience in the area. When you travel with us, you pay less because you are not paying for a large administrative staff, a huge advertising budget, or airfare for trip leaders. In addition, we offer some of the best leader to customer ratios and group sizes in the industry (groups are limited to 7, 10, or 12 people)

We offer four different types of trips:

  • Biking Trips- Our biking trips are designed for those who want to experience Italy and Germany on a fun, active vacation. We bike 15-40 miles a day on flat, bikes-only paths. The biking is perfect for beginner/intermediate cyclists and those who want a mix of cycling and sightseeing. We provide daily luggage transfer so your bags will be waiting in your hotel room for you every afternoon- all you need to carry with you are the essentials for that day. If you want to bike less, electric assist bikes are available for rent or you can take a break and ride in our support van (or cruise down the Rhine in a riverboat to your next destination on our Germany trip). We stay at unique properties such as a castle in Germany and a winery in Italy. Biking through small towns, beautiful cities, along rivers and past vineyards is the perfect way to experience Europe!
  • Hiking Trips- We offer hiking trips to Iceland and Switzerland, allowing you to get off the beaten path and experience the incredible natural beauty that both of these countries have to offer. We hike around 7-11 miles each day, led by expert guides that assist in making the hike as easy and enjoyable as possible. In Iceland, we stay in tents with one night in a mountain hut. In Switzerland, we stay at charming mountain chalets and farmhouses. These trips are great if you want to spend the day surrounded by majestic mountains and breath-taking scenery!
  • Leisure Trips- Our leisure trips to Iceland and Croatia/Montenegro are perfect for those who want a fun and exciting trip with a small group of travelers but do not want the daily physical activity of our biking and hiking trips. These trips include fun activities such as kayaking among icebergs in a glacial lagoon, exploring medieval walled cities, hiking to a hot spring river, and sampling unique varieties of wine at small family wineries.
  • Self Drive Trips- If you want to explore Iceland on your own, our self-drive tours will help make your dream trip a reality! Choose from one of our five different itineraries, or work with us to develop a unique trip just for you. We arrange car rentals, accommodations, and activities, making your trip planning as stress-free as possible while allowing you to travel when and where you want.

Wine & Dine

Italy is known for their food, and rightfully so. On this trip you will sample some of the best food- from gourmet pizza and pasta to homemade bruschetta and delicious truffle dishes, Italy is a food lover’s delight! You can even learn how to make some of the dishes by opting to partake in a cooking lesson. We bike through one of Italy’s premier wine growing regions (known as Tre Venezie), where you can sample local whites like Soave and Prosecco as well as delicious reds unique to the region such as Valpolicella and Amarone. Spending the night at a historic 16th century estate at a winery will give you the chance to learn more about the wine making process as well as its history in the area.
