Itinerary
We fly to Anchorage with a change of planes in Vancouver. Upon arrival we transfer to our hotel for an evening at leisure and overnight. This is Alaska's most cosmopolitan city, with great restaurants and places to explore.
Our motorcoach journey this morning takes us along the scenic George Parks Highway, which is one of the most dazzling in all of the Great Land. Keep an eye open for awesome views of Mt. McKinley along the way. We overnight at the Mt. McKinley Princess Wilderness Lodge...
Another spectacular motorcoach tour takes us to Denali National Park. We travel deep into the pristine wilderness of the Park for a National History Tour. Our guide will make stops at points of interest including a view to the Snowy Alaska Range. Be on the lookout for...
We board the luxury rail cars of the McKinley Express for the scenic ride to Whittier. The train windows allow maximum viewing of the awesome landscape. In Whittier we embark our ship and enjoy our first delicious dinner on board.
Hubbard Glacier is the longest tidewater glacier in Alaska extending 76 miles from Mt. Logan in the Yukon. You will hear the creaks and groans as this very active glacier advances. There will be some exciting moments when the huge chunks of ice crash into the bay creating a wonderful sound called "white thunder" by the local natives.
This is the highlight of our cruise. Under a blanket of silence we gaze upon the ice cliffs and their colours of blue, green, white and grey. Entrance to Glacier Bay is closely guarded in order to protect the delicate environment, so a limited number of permits are issued each year for ships who meet the strict criteria. Watch for whales, seals and bears on the shore.
Enjoy the Gold Rush atmosphere of Skagway, home base for the stampeders whose dreams led them to the Yukon. Explore the historic district on foot or by streetcar. Consider going on one of the optional tours; a ride on the narrow-gauge White Pass Railway, or the Skagway Extravaganza which includes panning for gold and the rousing Soapy Smith Show.
A day in Alaska's historic capital. Perhaps visit the Alaska State Museum which features rare Eskimo and Indian artifacts. See relics of the gold mines that brought wealth to the town in the early days.
Southeast Alaska's "first city" is as picturesque as they come. The town is built on pilings over the water and clings to the slopes of Deer Mountain. Native culture abounds at Totem Bight State Park.
Following all the sightseeing of the past week, a leisure day at sea will be most welcome. Relax on deck and watch the beauty of the Inside Passage float by as we cruise along the spectacular coast of British Columbia.
We arrive in Vancouver, disembark and fly home.

Tour Operator
Founded in:
Senior Discovery Tours is the company you hoped existed. We manage the details so you enjoy the destinations.
Founded in 1975, we’re Canada’s largest operator of guided tours for the mature traveller, offering more than 100 different international tours and cruises that deliver outstanding service, value and discovery.
1. Experience freedom from care
The comment we hear most from our travellers is how carefree our tours are. We manage all the details, big and small, so you can enjoy your holiday without any of the hassles normally associated with travel. Flights, hotels, meals, baggage handling at hotels, transportation and sightseeing excursions are all included. And in most Canadian cities, we’ll even pick you up and drop you off at home.
2. Tour Managers you can count on
Our travellers always rave about our Tour Managers. They attend to every detail, ensuring your trip runs smoothly. For instance, at hotels they’ll check you in and out, tip the staff on your behalf and keep track of your luggage. Their energetic approach to travel enlivens every tour, and their experience prepares them to gracefully and expertly handle unexpected situations. Our Tour Managers are also expert at creating a positive group dynamic so that everyone enjoys a great sense of camaraderie.
3. Enjoy a more leisurely trip
Most of our multi-stop tours stay in each locale for at least two days, and our “stay-put” holidays allow you to settle into one or two hotels for the entire duration of the tour. You’ll have plenty of time to explore, shop and take it all in at your own pace.
4. Put your mind at ease
On most tours, daily breakfast and dinner, and sometimes even lunch, are included in the price. Most meals are pre-arranged so you never have to worry about finding a restaurant in a strange place. As well, all of the hotels we use have been personally inspected to ensure quality and value.
5. No surprise costs
The price of every tour covers all costs, including all taxes, travel insurance, tipping, baggage handling at hotels and of course pre-arranged excursions and entertainment (which other tour companies charge extra for). The price is guaranteed in Canadian dollars and there are never any hidden surcharges.

What's excluded
- The cost of your tour are services and items of a personal nature (laundry, telephone calls, room service, beverages unless otherwise specified)
- Shore excursions on cruise ships (unless otherwise specified) and optional tours which are sometimes offered.
Cancellation insurance is included in the cost of your tour (unless you decline our insurance package in which case a rebate will be applied to your cost). The policy covers cancellation in case you, a close relative or your travelling companion have an emergency illness or injury. So if you have to cancel your reservation after paying your deposit or final payment (for a reason covered under the policy), you will be refunded the total amount that you paid, less an administration fee of $75. If you cancel a tour for a reason not covered by our policy, or if you declined our comprehensive insurance package, there is a penalty schedule outlined in our brochure – generally speaking the closer your cancellation is to the departure date, the higher the cancellation penalty will be. The penalty represents the non-refundable funds paid to our suppliers (airlines, hotels, cruise lines etc.) on your behalf. Those who declined our insurance package because they have their own insurance can claim the non-refundable portion on their own policy.
