Why choose The Family Adventure Company?

Since 1996, The Family Adventure Company has been delighting families with small group adventure holidays to most of the world’s amazing destinations.

Whether you want to get active and cycle, raft and kayak or take things a little slower and sleep under the stars in the desert, get up close to some incredible wildlife, take to the seas and explore hidden coves by sail boat, or discover another culture, we provide an English speaking local leader who leads you through an exciting itinerary utilising local accommodation, a variety of fun transportation and a wide range of activities and opportunities.

1. Award winning

We are thrilled to have been voted Best Family Tour Operator by Family Traveller readers in 2015 and prior to that, we brought home the title again at The Times Travel Awards. We are proud to hold these titles, a huge honour and endorsement of what we do.

2. UK’s leading family adventure specialist

The Family Adventure Company is the UK’s leading family adventure holiday specialist.

20 years ago, we pioneered the concept of small group family travel and now take more families on adventure holidays each year than any other adventure tour operator. We offer a wide range of trips to suit different ages and interests, including dedicated adventures for teens and their families and exciting wildlife, activity or cultural adventures.

3. Small groups

On every trip you enjoy a mix of must-see highlights and memorable experiences. Our small groups tours have an average size of 3 or 4 like-minded families providing ready-made friends for the kids and sensible conversation for the parents. The trips are ideal for families of all ages, solo parents , single-child families and you can even bring granny or grandad along.

4. Child prices for 14s and under

Unlike many others, we offer lower prices for kids aged 14 and under. Kids will automatically receive 10% OFF the adult full price so you’ll benefit from an extra three years of cheaper travel.

5. 3-for-2 on all kids' places

For families with three children or more, we offer three for the price of two on kids' places.  All families weren’t created with equal numbers and sometimes the hassle of extra beds and different hotel rooms can be a struggle. We support larger families to ensure you have the ultimate family holiday. Find out more.

6. Local leaders

All our tours are led by local leaders, specially trained in running family adventures. When it comes to your hometown, we bet you know the stories behind the hidden sights, all the best parks and the tastiest spot to grab a bite to eat. But when you travel, you're suddenly the new family in town. That's why it makes sense for a local to help show you around. Find out more about our leaders.

7. We're part of Intrepid Travel

In 2012, The Family Adventure Company merged with the global tour operator, Intrepid Travel which has 25 years’ experience of taking travellers on adventure holidays and offers more than 1,000 trips to over 100 countries.

By joining together we can now offer our customers a wider range of trips, guaranteed departures on most trips and more departure dates. We operate our trips under both The Family Adventure and Intrepid Travel.

8. Responsible Travel

The Family Adventure Company is committed to responsible travel that has a positive impact on the destinations we visit. We employ local tour leaders, support vital community projects around the world and carbon offset travel within destination countries. We support The Intrepid Foundation, a not-for-profit fund that aids non-government organisations around the world. From healthcare to animal welfare, education and environmental conservation, we're dedicated to supporting the communities we visit.

Accommodation

,Hotel (7nt) The style of accommodation indicated in the day-to-day itinerary is a guideline. On rare occasions, alternative arrangements may need to be made due to the lack of availability of rooms in your selected accommodation. A similar standard of accommodation will be used in these instances. General Rooming Configurations: Family of two - All family groupings of two will be put into a twin room. Family of three - Wherever possible we will put you in a triple room. Please be aware that in some places triple rooms are in short supply. This means that, in practice, a triple room will often simply be a twin room with a mattress on the floor or a further bed squashed in. Where it is impossible to provide a triple room, you will have to decide which of your party takes the single room. Family of four or more - You will most likely stay in two twin rooms. If and wherever possible we will aim put you in a quadruple room. Whilst we will do our very best to ensure that families are roomed close together (in some cases, we can arrange adjoining rooms), we can’t guarantee this. Most family holidays occur during peak season and we sometimes have little to no control over where you will be put. You need to come prepared for this. Accommodation is clean and simple. You'll mainly stay in small, locally-run, 2-3 star hotels and guesthouses, which reflect the character of the area, generally these will be a twin room with private facilities. Sometimes you'll stay in larger, more comfortable hotels or occasionally rustic accommodation with basic facilities. We use a variety of accommodation on most trips; chosen for their value for money, location and atmosphere. We also try and incorporate unique accommodation experiences, such as a night with a local tribe, or sleeping under the stars in the desert.
Cancellation policy

If you cancel some or all portions of your booking cancellation fees will apply.  A cancellation will only be effective when we receive written confirmation of the cancellation.  If you cancel a trip:

  • 56 days or more prior to departure, we will retain the deposit;
  • between 31 and 55 days prior to departure, we will retain the deposit or 50% of the total booking cost;whichever is greater, and
  • 30 days or less prior to departure, we will retain 100% paid by you in connection with the booking.

Note that different cancellation conditions apply to Polar bookings and some styles of trips and additional services. Your booking consultant will advise if differences apply. Please note that for certain travel arrangements the cancellation charge may be higher than those shown. In certain cases a 100% cancellation fee applies as soon as the booking is made and the ticket is issued. You will be advised of different cancellation charges at time of booking. You are strongly advised to take out cancellation insurance at the time of booking which will cover cancellation fees.   If you leave a trip for any reason after it has commenced we are not obliged to make any refunds for unused services.

If you fail to join a tour, join it after departure, or leave it prior to its completion, no refund will be made. The above cancellation fees are in addition to fees which may be levied by accommodation providers, travel agents or third party tour and transport operator fees.

Travel Insurance

It offers you peace of mind and ensures you are prepared for unexpected events that may occur before or during your journey

Additional Information

Lake walking

Nestled in the heart of the Pyrenees, Andorra provides the perfect mountain base. The walking here is fantastic and you’ll get straight out there to explore the beautiful Siscarro Lakes and the Incles Valley.

White Water Rafting & Biking

Enjoy a fun afternoon white water rafting. The river is fast flowing and rough in parts - exciting! More cautious families can be taken on calmer sections of the river. Exploring the area on mountain bikes you’ll ride to Engolasters Lake before choosing a route suitable to your ability through the woods. A traditional barbecue and quick descent finish off the day with a thrill.

Our Active Pyrenees trip is just one of our many Europe Family tours.
