5 Days Iceland At A Glance: South, Kjolur & Snaefellsnes From Reykjavik is a quick introduction to south and west Iceland with a glimpse towards the north. Day 1 - Wednesday: ARRIVAL – KEFLAVIK–REYKJAVIK Individual arrival to Iceland. Self-organized transfer - Keflavik international airport to Reykjavik to your accommodation (transfers can be booked through Nonni Travel). Day 2 - Thursday: REYKJAVIK–SOUTH SHORE We drive east along the south coast of Iceland. We stop at the inspiring waterfalls of Seljalandsfoss and Skogafoss, where we also get the chance to visit the interesting Skogar regional museum. We take an easy hike at Reynisfjara beach, following on with a drive to the village of Vik with its black sandy beach stretching as far as the eye can see, with impressive views of the Reynisdrangar cliffs rising out of the ocean. Returning to Selfoss we make a detour through the charming coastal villages of Stokkseyri and Eyrarbakki along the south coast of Iceland. Accommodation in country hotel in the area of Selfoss. Day 3 - Friday: SELFOSS–THINGVELLIR-GEYSIR-GULLFOSS-KJOLUR/HVERAVELLIR The day starts with a drive along the southern shore of Lake Thingvallavatn with views of the steamy slopes of Mt Hengill. We visit the Thingvellir national park – the site of the old parliament and place of great geological interest. The route continues to the Geysir area, where the most active one named Strokkur spouts impressively every 5-10 minutes. We drive to the breathtaking Gullfoss waterfall (the Golden Falls) and then head north via the Kjolur highland route. This off-road experience takes us between the Langjokull and Hofsjokull glaciers. Mid-point we reach Hveravellir a geothermal area with a natural pool where we have the chance to take a dip in its geothermal waters or take a stroll around the hot springs in this desert oasis. We drive further north across the interior of Iceland and end the day in the area of Midfjordur. Accommodation in a country hotel. Day 4 - Saturday: LAUGARBAKKI–SNAEFELLSNES– REYKJAVIK Today we travel south again, this time along the ring road before turning off towards the Snaefellsnes peninsula which we can refer to as »Iceland in miniature«; practically all natural phenomena that exist all around Iceland can be found on the peninsula – only on a rather smaller scale! There are volcanic mountains and craters, lava fields, a glacier, waterfalls, sandy beaches, columnar basalt formations, bird cliffs, etc. Snaefellsnes peninsula is also the only area in Iceland where mineral water springs can be found. We circle around the peninsula, then drive through Borgarnes and finally arrive in Reykjavik where we stay overnight. Day 5 - Sunday: REYKJAVIK–KEFLAVIK – DEPARTURE Breakfast . Self-organized airport transfer to Keflavik airport for check-in time for international flights - please pre-book at the hotel reception the evening before if you have not pre-booked with Nonni Travel. If your flight departs late afternoon, then you have the possibility to add an optional whale watching boat tour in the morning or a visit to the Blue Lagoon with a follow-on transfer to Keflavik international airport (surcharge).
