What's this trip about?

Travelling from the Caribbean coast to the central valley, across to the Pacific and down to the Osa Peninsula, this holiday takes in contrasting scenery and habitats that are home to a diverse range of wildlife. It'll open your eyes to the rich natural wonders of this small country. Over the course of two weeks you'll spend time in rainforest, cloudforest and by the coast, exploring on foot and by boat. At each wildlife activity you'll be accompanied by a naturalist guide, eager to show you the best his country has to offer in terms of flora and fauna, and to share his knowledge and passion. Howler and capuchin monkeys, toucan, macaws and hummingbirds, frogs in all manner of colours, sloths and turtles are just some of the species you'll become familiar with.   You'll be staying at lodges and hotels, each chosen for its location, comfort and service. Between activities and adventures you'll have time to chill, chatting to other guests, eating tasty Costa Rican food, some days enjoying a dip in the pool and relaxing with a massage. They say good things come in small packages, and Costa Rica is a case in point. You'd be hard pushed to experience so many landscapes and see so much wildlife in two weeks anywhere else on earth. So grab your camera and pack your bags - it's holiday time!

View Profile

Tribes was started in 1998  by a husband and wife team after they'd both spent years as travel guides and travel journalist.

Twenty years on, Tribes is still a proudly independent and family-run specialist travel company. The highly professional team delight in sharing the knowledge they've built up of the places they offer.

The company works on a simple ethos …

They want you to have the very best holiday experience possible, and they try to ensure that travel is sustainable.

The company has a consistently very high feedback rating from clients, and many travellers come back to them again and again.

Since Tribes organises mainly tailor-made  (custom-made) holidays and safaris, there is no standardisation to the style or type of trips they plan.
The consultants listen to what you want, and they expertly plan what is absolutely right for you, and as close as possible to the budget you have. If you ask for something that isn't possible - they will tell you.  If they feel that the trip you're asking for could be improved - they will advise you. If they think there is a property or experience you might love - they will suggest it to you.

Planning a very special holiday starts with an honest conversation. Tribes will listen and talk and plan with you until it's exactly what you want.

Accommodation

,Bosque de Paz overview This small lodge has just twelve guest rooms, giving it an exclusive and intimate feel. The abundant birdlife, attracted by the many feeders, makes this a great favourite with ornithologists, and photographers will enjoy capturing images of the wildlife and scenery. The owners, Frederico and Vanessa Gonzales, are dedicated to conservation and research. They developed the lodge and private reserve to protect the wildlife and ecosystems of the Central Volcanic Range of Costa Rica, and save this precious environment for future generations. Staying here you'll experience their passion for nature as well as their warm hospitality, making you feel more of a family friend than a guest. All rooms have private bathrooms with hot water on tap, and balconies where you can sit and watch butterflies and hummingbirds. Bedrooms are roomy with high wooden ceilings, whitewashed walls and tiled floors.  The large restaurant has picture windows with views of the butterfly garden and forest. The chef specialises in local recipes so you'll have the chance to sample typical Costa Rican fare. Coffee is available throughout the day free of charge. There's an inviting lounge with comfy sofas, where you'll find a number of board games as well as a TV. There's also a small library. Outside, you can follow the many walking trails and hike to a nearby waterfall, and pay a visit to the renowned orchid garden with over 200 species on show. There are several outdoor seating areas where you can sit and take in the beautiful surroundings.
