- Consider bringing water shoes. Many swimming spots have ladders, but the shoes come in handy for navigating the rocks, which can be sharp when dry and slick when wet.
- Strategize to avoid crowds. Unfortunately, the tourist sprawl has hit many of the medieval walled cities of Croatia - it's a real issue when the large cruise ships dock. Plan to tour cities early in the morning or later in the evening, when the heat and crowds have subsided.
