What's this trip about?

Costa Rica has long captivated adventure travelers with its astonishing beauty and natural diversity as well as its long tradition of warm hospitality and democracy. Fully one quarter of Costa Rica’s territory is protected by national parks, consisting of tropical rainforest, montane cloud forest, active volcanoes, grasslands, navigable rivers, and tropical beaches. Within these parks are found 850 species of birds, 600 species of butterflies, 1,200 species of orchids, and 237 species of mammals, including three-toed sloths, five types of jungle cats, coatis, giant anteaters, peccaries, tapir, and four species of monkeys. You’ll explore Costa Rica’s natural diversity in a slightly more active, adventurous way than the typical traveler, while still retiring each night to a first class lodge!

View Profile

Founded in 1973, Nature Expeditions International (NEI) offers upscale wildlife viewing, "soft" adventure and cultural tours to over 25 countries on five continents. Each NEI tour offers a variety of soft adventure excursions, meaningful cultural experiences, a choice of lecture topics and first class or deluxe accommodations. All of our adventures are low intensity and elective, and may be replaced by cultural excursions, wildlife viewing or free time. Geared for active travelers over 40 (as well as for some children), NEI's distinctive tours offer a unique (and customizable) blend of adventure and cultural variety.

Based on years of feedback, we believe that NEI's tours compare favorably with those of our competitors in terms of the quality and creativity of our itineraries, their educational content, flexibility and the variety of adventure and cultural experiences offered.

We are proud members of the Better Business Bureau (where we have an A+ rating), the African Wildlife Foundation, International Galapagos Tour Operators Association (founding member), the International Ecotourism Society, IGLTA and IATAN
