Company owners Gene and Jo Ann Taylor have a genuine passion for active living. By that, we mean not living life sitting on a couch and watching it go by on a television screen, or staying so close to home that we could only dream about what the rest of the world was like. Always adventuresome and active, we decided to make it our life’s work. So in 1989 Jo Ann quit Nike and Gene left a national marketing and management company and together we founded The Walking Connection. From the beginning our concept was to create a community of like-minded people who enjoy walking, hiking, being outside, and for many, traveling and exploring some of the world’s greatest destinations by foot, kayak, hot air balloon or occasional zip line.

Being active and enjoying life is at the very core of who we are and what we do. Our company is not simply about fitness, exercise and being healthy. Though those are a big part, we are also about enjoying the great wines of the world, the unique flavors of local cuisine, meeting people of different cultures and taking long walks, just to see what’s around the next corner.

We are also rooted in adventure travel. We lead exciting journeys that balance active exploration with exceptional comfort. We criss-cross the globe searching for just the right places to visit and then create amazing itineraries that provide our traveling guests with authentic experiences. Whether walking through a bustling city market, the narrow passages of a rural village or hiking to a distant mountain top, we connect our guests to each other as well as to the local flavor, culture, cuisine and of course, great walks that are in nearly every corner of the world.

Walking is the connection…

…to an enriched lifestyle.

Walking is the connection…

…to the greatest destinations in the world!

As established leaders in the providing healthy living information, especially geared toward fitness walking, training and hiking, in 1992 we added a new component to our list services, which at the time was just beginning to gain popularity in the fitness, lifestyle and travel industries – active adventure travel. Our recipe for success is pretty simple. We take the existing active lifestyles of our clients, learn about their personal preferences and combined them with our professional planning skills to to create and personally lead remarkable travel adventures. Our goal is to treat every guest as special. And we do our best to make you a lifelong customer and guest by working tirelessly to earn your trust, over and over again, year after year.

Accommodation

,Moreton-in-Marsh On the main street of Moreton-in-Marsh, a 16th-century golden-stone manor converted into a classic country-house luxury hotel. Bedrooms are stylishly decorated with modern furnishings and warm colors, and feature views of the surrounding town and countryside. Common rooms include a library, inviting sofas, striking artwork, and an open terrace on the ground floor onto a tranquil garden with herbaceous borders, pathways, and a 300-year-old mulberry tree. Moreton-in-Marsh has been a market town since the 1,200s and a travelers’ stop for 1,700 years; its main street has many 18th-century inns and houses.   Lower Slaughter Your two night stay will be at a rural manor converted into a stylish boutique hotel, blending traditional architecture and furniture with strategically placed modern art. Plush guest rooms incorporate vintage and handmade furnishings and luxurious linens. Occupying manicured gardens on the bank of the River Eye, the inn is just a 15- minute stroll along country paths to Bourton-on-the-Water, the Cotswolds’ bestknown village for its picturesque streets, series of bridges over the Windrush River, and bird habitat.   Broadway A 16th-century coaching inn on the main street of the “Jewel of the Cotswolds” features tastefully appointed rooms surrounding a small central courtyard. Guestrooms, located in a converted wing, are luxuriously furnished and decorated in light colors. Bar, restaurant, and lounge areas on the ground floor have low beams, open fires, warm colors, and paneled walls. The honey-colored limestone buildings and garden-lined streets were an inspiration to many artists and writers, such as J.M. Barrie and John Singer Sargent.   Chipping Camden One of the oldest inns in the Cotswolds, a converted stone manor house in Chipping Campden at the start of the Cotswold Way walking route. Refurbished guestrooms are well-equipped with modern and antique furnishings. Also blending antique and exposed beams with contemporary flair are the hotel’s restaurant, coffee shop, bar, and terrace. The town that was once the center of Europe’s wool trade contains the region’s most beautiful “wool church” and rows of historical stone houses.

Additional Information

Itinerary:

Please note that the details of this itinerary are subject to change. Many of the planned activities are organized according to availability, events or seasonal dates, appropriate weather conditions, schedules of hosts, or the discretion of our guides. We make every effort to provide the experience described in the itinerary with the understanding that some things may change.

Activity Level:

This tour is one of our Self-Guided Walking Adventures, rated easy to moderate, with an average of 6 to 12 miles per day. Some walks can be shortened with short taxi transfers (at your own expense). There are daily ascents and descents, with a maximum elevation gain of 1,640 feet. Most of the hills are gradual as opposed to short and steep. The terrain includes narrow gravel roads, springy turf, packed dirt trails, and a few stretches of loose gravel. This loop itinerary offers full days of walking through quintessential English countryside of quaint villages, with cream-colored cottages and beautiful gardens, as well as historic castles, a Roman road, and medieval churches. As some walks bring you through open pastures and constantly evolving farmland, it’s helpful to remain attentive; some navigation skills and a sense of adventure may come in handy as well.
