Accommodation

,Hotel Kviknes, Balestrand Grade: Superior Type: Hotel On the shores of the beautiful Sognefjord, Hotel Kviknes sits on an enviable position in one of Norway's most scenic areas. Built in a traditional Swiss-style, the building's distinctive white-wood facade has become characteristic of the area, and is well-suited to the lush emerald surroundings. Graced with an extensive art collection that began in 1877 and is displayed throughout, the hotel oozes old-world charm. Over the years, previous guests have included royalty, presidents, prime ministers and movie stars. A wide range of activities at and from the hotel enable guests to make the most of their scenic surroundings and hiking, in particular, draws guests to these shores. Other activities include wine tastings, cultural trips and fishing excursions. The restaurant features an international menu, served with vintages from the hotel's well-stocked wine cellar. The dining room and terrace that host your evening meals feature especially popular fjord views and are an atmospheric way in which to dine. Accommodation is shared between the historical and more modern building and most of the rooms have balconies with stunning views. We highly recommend guests to upgrade to rooms in the Historical part, but early booking is essential. Fretheim Hotel, Flam Grade: Superior Type: Hotel Set in a refurbished manor house from the 1800s, this 122-room hotel, found in the town of Flam, is the perfect base for exploring and taking excursion in the unspoilt scenery of western Norway. The long history of Fretheim is carefully preserved and, throughout the building, you can still see signs of the hotel's past. The building's older sections have been carefully restored with open fireplaces and antique furniture decorates the lounges, library and historical guest rooms. Found in an area of exceptional natural beauty, the hotel's staff are eager to help you get the best of your time in Norway, and can arrange hiking, canoeing and guided tours of the area. Bikes and ski equipment are also available for rental. The restaurant serves delectable Norwegian cuisine, based on organic, locally sourced ingredient which, in the summer, can be enjoyed on the hotel's terrace. The hotel's bar is comfortably set out and provides a cosy atmosphere in which to enjoy a drink or tuck-in to a light snack. We highly recommend that guests stay in the hotelís historical wing, however the 90 rooms in the modern section are well appointed as well, and every room in Fretheim has views of either the striking fjord or the jagged mountains. All rooms are en suite and feature a seating area and electric kettle. Myrkdalen Hotel Grade: Superior Type: Hotel Myrkdalen Hotel is a modern mountain hotel situated in a great location for nature based activities. In the summer the area offers a variety of hiking trails and adrenaline filled activities with Sognefjord and Naeroyfjord close by. There are different room types to choose from, with standard rooms, family rooms, junior suites and an elegant suite, all furnished to a high standard. It also has self-catering apartments and cabins. It has a wellness area offering different types of massages – a great way to end a day full of adventures! Bookings need to be made at least 24 hours in advance.

Additional Information

Norway is a land of vast open spaces and some of the most stunning scenery you’ll ever encounter. So what better way to get close and admire the breath taking views that greet you round every corner than walking on the many hiking trails that weave there way up mountains, in valleys and near the magical fjords of Sognefjord and Naeroyfjord.

This small group tour departs on three dates during summer 2017 and as well as several planned hikes and a boat cruise along the Sognefjord from Balestrand to Flam, the tour also includes other fjord attractions such as a RIB boat safari taking you to the UNESCO World Heritage listed Naeroyfjord, a day kayaking along the beautiful fjord, and a bike ride down the Flam valley road. The trip also features a train ride on departure day on the Flamsbana railway, one of the most scenic journeys in the world.

The adventure begins from Voss in the very heart of the mountain area where you are met by the guide who accompanies you throughout the trip. The focus is very much on hiking on some of the wonderful well maintained and marked routes taking you to amazing spots by the fjords and including stays in three stunning locations.

This is a truly memorable active adventure and was a big hit with travellers on last years tours.

Please note:

This trip is not intended for expert hikers, but more suitable for walkers with a moderate level of fitness with routes taking between 4 and 6 hours.
